bike tires

Two years ago, we bought two new Trek bikes. We used them throughout the summer and fall. This was all on city streets and / or parks, so no off-roading.

Last year, due to an injury, we didn't ride our bikes at all, so they've pretty much been sitting in the garage for about a year and a half without any use.

Obviously, the tires are flat, which brings me to my question. Do you think they are safe to use if we just fill them up? I'm thinking they probably need to be changed since they haven't been used for so long, but neither one of us are big bike riders with any type of experience.

Re: bike tires

You should fill them with air and see what happens. I'm guessing they will be good to go. I'd examine the rubber around the valves and look for cracks.

I am certainly not an expert, but I am a bike rider. I have a $60 Roadmaster I purchased at Walmart a few years ago. I ride it around town in the spring and summer for exercise.

Re: bike tires

A year in the garage should leave them ok. Were they outside exposed to the elements you could have some problems, but really you should air them up and take them for a spin around the neighborhood before heading out. I don't think you'll have any issues though.

Re: bike tires

As long as there is no sign of rot. Check the areas around the valves especially. Check the tubes, too. If things check out, there is no reason why you can't use them.
