Bats lead 1 - 0 after a half inning. If they win, they will gain a game on all teams ahead of them in the wild card race.

Heaven forbid, Chacin blew a save by giving up two in the top of the ninth. But the AZL Reds loaded the bases in the bottom and Steve Selsky won the game, 4-3, with a single. Carlos Gonzalez had an excellent start over 5.2 IP (1 R, 4 H, 8 K).

Not sure if Billings had a double-dip or a makeup. But the Mustangs won the first game, 10-6. Silva and Bryson Smith homered. Perez and Waldrop had two hits apiece, with a 3B and 2B, respectively.

Edit: I see now that it was the makeup for last night.

Re: Sunday 8-21-11 Minor League Updates

I don't think I've ever seen anybody mention Quintin Berry as a prospect. And I'm not sure he is one. But I think it's worth asking the question. Here's where he stands.

Age: 26
Playing at: AA Carolina
Position: CF
BA: .301
OBP: .396
OPS: .820
SB: 35
Defense: I don't know.

He leads off for the Mudcats. Just singled, stole and scored on a hit from Soto to give Carolina a 1-0 lead.

Anyway, whaddya think?

He's in his prime now, and only in AA. Not really a prospect. Could possibly pull out a Freel-type career though.

The bullpen struggled and Billings lost the second game 7-4. Nick O'Shea (2-3), jockeying between catcher and first base, is up to .302.

If O'Shea can play catcher, that'd be a nice bat to have at that spot.

Behind Barnhart, Grandal, and Mesoraco, that's really, really nice depth.

Berry now has 4 SB on the night, up to 38, and both runs scored. Carolina leads 2-0 after 8. James Avery went 7 innings.

Gustafson completes the final two innings with no issues, and Carolina actually wins a shutout, 2-0.

And that would be a good scouting report to have. O'Shea has hit well, with power, from the outset.
