Sweet to return to Louisville

In a interview before Monday's game, Louisville Bats manager Rick Sweet said that he is in fact returning to be the manager for the Louisville Bats in 2012.

Good news.

Of course, as was said in the courier journal today, that is if he does not receive a big league job offer. Heard that Ted Power plans to return as well. Smokey Garret will almost certainly return if he does not retire. This is all excellent news, the Bats have had an exceptionally stable coaching staff for any level, let alone a minor league team, and the results have been great!

I'm heard a rumor that one of the three is not returning.

Re: Sweet to return to Louisville

Sweet would be an excellent bench coach at the major league level. He knows virtually all the younger guys in Cincinnati. Perhaps he moves on up?

Could Spier take over as hitting coach, with Sweet the heir apparent to Baker?

I'd take that.

If there are any changes to the staff, I hope the 3B coach is the guy to go. The Reds just make too many outs on the bases.

I don't know about outs on the bases, but I'm no fan of Berry's decision-making, that's for sure. Sweet coaches 3B in LOU, and I like Speier, so I would be for this. Jacoby can stay. As far as Speier being hitting coach, I think he's mainly touted as a defensive coach; broadcasters often mention what a great SS he was back in the day. JMO
