Meanest Players in Baseball

CNNSI polled 215 major leaguers for the meanest player in baseball. The only surprising names on the list are Utley at #2 (ahead of Bradley and Zambrano) and Pujols at #8.

1. AJ Pierzynski
2. Chase Utley
3. Milton Bradley
4. Carlos Zambrano
5. Vincente Padilla
6. Alex Rodriguez
7. Chris Carpenter (how will he explain this ranking to his son?!)
8. Albert Pujols
9. Nyjer Morgan
10. Kevin Youkilis

Utley suprises me as well. Unethcial at times perhaps, but mean is a different thing to me.

I would have thought Bradley,Zambrano and Morgan would easily be top three. Never knew Utley was considered mean at all.

Pujols is "mean" with a bat but I wouldn't consider him to be a "mean player."

I never thought of A-Rod as mean either, just kind of a weenie.

Re: Meanest Players in Baseball

I have no idea what "meanest" means. This list looks more like an "arrogant jerk" list moreso than "mean."

Mean is Richie Allen, Bob Gibson, Ty Cobb...haven't seen any of this list rising to this level.

Utley must talk so much trash while keeping a straight face.

Re: Meanest Players in Baseball

Alejandro "Butch" Heddo has to be the meanest of all time

He was the Mets batter who hit the HR off of Henry Rowengartner in Rookie of the Year and then mocked him as he rounded the bases. That was a big, bad, ugly, mean dude.

AJ, Bradley and Carlos belong on the list, and will probably make any classic lists. Perhaps not on the level of a Ty Cobb, but mean none the less. Were he active, Jose Guillen would make that list.
But Pujols? Utley? A-Rod? Perhaps they are sold-out remnants from the Jerk Store, but I don't see them as mean.
