Having grown up in West Virginia and knowing of many fathers who treated their children this way, this is not surprising to me. Very sad.

I can relate, this story is eery for me.
I grew up in a home with an alcoholic father, witnessed a lot of things a kid should never have to see. "Parents", if you want to call these people that, need to realize the impact it has on children that can, and sometimes does, last a lifetime. I bought my first gun at age 21, and made the same threat, and I fully intended to follow through on it if necessary. My dad also dropped dead of a heart attack, and I attended the funeral. But, unlike West, I could care less if my father would be proud of me. He made my life, and my mom's live, a living hell.
