Henry Rodriguez. He may end up being Felipe, but he's young enough to get his game together and take advantage of his tools. I like Didi and as a legit SS he is pretty enticing, but if H-Rod matures and ups his defensive game, he can be well above average as a 2B. Unlike Valaika and Frazier before him, H-Rod seems to have the combination of tools and skills to offensively and defensvely become better than average up the middle.

I got Didi at 14 and Henry at 15. Doug and BA think Didi will hit and given his strong defense as a true shortstop, I give him the edge here.

Cingrani was a slightly older prospect for the Pioneer League and his sample size was small. So I have him a bit lower.

I also think Juan Duran should be in the top 20. Had good hitting numbers at Dayton for a young prospect.

I actually had Frazier, H-Rod, Y-Rod and Didi 12 through 15 on my list before BA's list came out. I've considered re-ordering them, but they are all pretty close iMO.

Re: Who is Redszone's #14 prospect?

Juan Duran.

16 HR as a 19 year old in Dayton last year. He is 6'7 205 lbs, he could easily carry 20-30 more pounds of muscle as he fills out. He has a long swing and a K% to match. However on the 20-80 scale his power projects at 80.

Here is a scouting report and his stats
Quote:
Scouting report with google translator's help:

Gardener belonging to the organization of Cincinnati, gave 2 million signing bonus, the scouts will fascinate those big boys, young and has athleticism, he runs well, could play center field to, but it is an outfielder corners, specifically the right field is one of the rawest players in the draft, but one of the more power it has, Project 80 is held in the range 20-80, with his great height, weight and youth could grow physically and strength

For his age, Duran is an advanced player with good batting skills and much raw power could increase in future, but has trouble making contact, common in large players because they have a larger strike zone for cover, however is expected to improve in that aspect as strong game on.

At #14 I'm taking the huge ceiling of Duran

Went with Gregorius. He has All Star potential. He has some work to do with the bat, but the parts are there to make the improvements. Defensively, he can be quite good with above average range and a plus arm.

I like Gregorius here, but I like Tucker Barnhart just a little bit better. Rated as the best defensive catcher in all of the minor leagues. Competent with the bat, as well, although he could use a little more power. And his intangibles are alleged to be as good as it gets.

I've got Cingrani, with Duran and Didi close behind.

I like Didi but I like Ryan LaMarre's potential better. I think Ryan is underrated here.

At this point, ceiling matters more to me. Gregorious could be another Janish while Henry Rodriguez could be more.

Gregorius has a higher ceiling than Henry Rodriguez.

Nah. Henry can go 320/ 380/ 500 at his ceiling. As a second baseman.

DiDi may win a Gold Glove, but his offensive ceiling isn't nearly that rosy.

I don't think Henry has that kind of power. In fact, I don't think Henry has more power potential than Didi does.

Re: Who is Redszone's #14 prospect?

As far as Didi vs. H-Rod goes, Didi gets a lot of points for being a plus SS and I love that as much as anyone, but when I look at the AA numbers, that tips the scales to H-Rod for me. Didi struggles to an OPS barely above .700 (the OPS version of the Mendoza line) while H-Rod maintained a strong .799 in 312 PAs. Looking deeper though, I'm most impressed at some of H-Rod's other numbers. His walk rate jumped considerably. He walked 25 times in 312 PAs (8%). That seems like a pretty big jump from the 4% to 5% numbers we saw in A and A+. His OBP was a still strong .367 which was a full .065 higher than his BA. In previous seasons, at the lower levels, that number was much lower. H-Rod stole 18 bases while being caught only 3 times. I'm not a huge fan of the SB and view it more as the cherry on the sundae, but the success rate in AA was vastly improved. All of these things "smell like" a player who is starting to "get it." If that is the case, and it spreads to the rest of his game and we see H-Rod putting his defensive tools to work, he could be a very strong player. While I don't foresee a slugging % in the .500 range as was suggested earlier, he has consistently been in the mid-.400s. I could see a guy with a line of .280/.340/.415/.755 in the middle IF with decent speed, range and defensive ability. That will play in the major leagues. Didi hasn't shown those kind of slugging numbers (except in Bakersfield where it means little) and his OBP number have been low as well. He may end-up becoming the second coming of Dave Concepcion, but at this point he looks a lot more iike Paul Janish. That's OK, but until we see him do more with the bat, I have to give H-Rod the nod.

Didi and H-Rod are both young. H-Rod seems to have a decent bat for a MI while raising questions about his work ethic. Didi's questions are all about his bat. As kids grow up, its much more likely to make them mature than it is a good hitter. I hope they both come through. A middle IF of Brandon Phillips JR and Dave Concepcion JR sounds pretty good to me. OTOH, they could very well become DeAngelo Jiminez and Rey Ordonez. It will be interesting to watch.
