Re: The Best Shape of My Life 2012 edition

I think the good news in this, is that Alonso stated this was his plan near the end of last season. Clearly he recognized that in order to win the LF job he needed to alter his body type. He talked then about hiring a chef and designing a work out to accomplish that goal. Now apparently it was more than just talk

Easily one of the most entertaining yearly threads on the board.

Re: The Best Shape of My Life 2012 edition

Didn't expect to see this guy show up in the thread:

http://www.masnsports.com/nationals_...-comeback.html

Quote:
DALLAS - Dmitri Young strolls through the Hilton Anatole lobby at the Winter Meetings, stopping to greet old baseball friends. An effervescent grin has replaced the frustrated scowl that Young wore as his major league career wore down, and he's a shade of his former self, having pared his more than 300-lb. frame down to a svelte 230 lbs.

"Cap and gown," he cracks wise when asked when the last time he was at this weight.

The 38-year-old Young last played in 2008 for the Nationals, when weight and health issues associated with a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes ruined an impressive comeback story that started on the minor league fields in Viera, Fla. Before 2007 spring training, former Nats general manager Jim Bowden offered him a shot to prove he loved the game enough to work his way back alongside teeangers trying to make their mark..

Now Young wants to make another comeback, if a major league team will take a chance on a guy who's gotten more opportunities than most.

Re: The Best Shape of My Life 2012 edition

He might look all right as a switch-hitting PH with some pop in his bat and a righty-hitting backup 1B.

Re: The Best Shape of My Life 2012 edition

If he's 230 again, he might be a back-up option as a LF again.

Though his defense was always bad, it would be fun to see him in the GABP again.

I'd root for him, for sure, especially playing the erstwhile fifth OF and back-up corner IF spot. (Brutally, of course, but playing them.)

Can you all give Carlos Beltran some good mojo in here? Berkman was part of the thread last year and had an All Star year, lol.

It is self-declared... but it satisfies your need:
