Good! Now either go sign Carlos Beltran or trade for Seth Smith. Quote:

I think this is a domino the Reds needed to fall.

Re: Rockies sign Cuddyer
So, you're thinking trade Alonso, maybe Heisey or Stubbs too, and platoon Smith with Sappelt? Smith is totally a platoon guy, but he hits RHP very well (at Coors). I could swim with the idea of Smith, but he seems redundant since we have Alonso, who seem better at the plate.

Guy crushes righties. Like Cozart, a graduate of Ole Miss. (A platoon with Cody Ross might be quite potent, though I doubt Ross would sign somewhere where he's slotted to start only against lefties.)

Re: Rockies sign Cuddyer
Colorado has nobody who is remotely appealing outside of Gonzalez and Tulo.

Re: Rockies sign Cuddyer
I have a feeling Beltran is going to end up in red... Cardinal red.

I'd take Drew Pomeranz in a second, although of course the Rockies have no intention of trading him.

I like Smith.
I like Beltran better.

Re: Rockies sign Cuddyer
Volquez for Smith works well IF the Reds can get a good starter for Alonso plus. I suspect the first deal would be revenue neutral which would still give the Reds $10M to get the starter they need and the closer they want.

Re: Rockies sign Cuddyer
If the Reds could get Seth Smith for Volquez, they should pull the trigger now. I agree that Smith is a platoon player, but as a lefty he would give 400 productive ABs against RHP and plays a good defensive corner OF. He would be a good platoon guy with Stubbs. Stubbs plays CF againts LHP with Heisey in left. Heisey moves to CF against RHP with Smith in left. Alonso dealt for pitching.
Smith (.891 OPS vs RHP) and Stubbs (.896 OPS vs. LHP) would make an effective mid-order platoon.
