Question for Mac users

We've had an IMac for a few years now, and while we're happy with it, lately it's been significantly slower than our PC, especially in surfing the Web and downloading. If it were a PC I'd say it needed some sort of system cleanup software, but I was under the impression that Macs seldom needed such things. Am I wrong, and if so is there a cleanup program that any of you would recommend?

Clear the cookies and cashe in safari, just like you would on a PC. Defrag the hard drive as well, if you haven't done it for awhile.

What Reds4Life said. Also, get Google Chrome as your browser! I use Chrome and my wife uses Safari. She always comments on how much faster Chrome yet still uses Safari. Firefox feels like a snail next to both. Also, clean up your hard drive. Mac OS uses free hard drive space as virtual memory for tasks so the more free space you have the faster the machine will run.

I use Chrome, but there are also times it's slow, don't know why.

Re: Question for Mac users

How much disk space do you have left? The Mac can slow down dramatically when you have less than 10 GB a free disk space.

Chrome caches every piece of information that runs through it. Clear your browsing data on occasion and you'll be back to that blazing speed. The best part is telling Chrome to clear all data "Since the beginning of time."
