3 years when the dust clear
This trade has everyone feeling a little uneasy. I'm not a a huge fan of it either.
However, the fact remains this trade helps now and this trade can't be looked at as a lose until year 3. Then if Votto doesn't stay, Mesaraco isn't the answer and a closer is still missing then we can deem this trade as a bust. |

You can't come on the SD and preach about patience. That's just absurd. Everyone knows that this trade is the worst trade since Hamilton for Volquez (except those who know it's the best trade since Parker for Rijo).

Re: 3 years when the dust clear
Three years when the dust clears all those top prospects from Dayton will be knocking on the door. Torreyes, Y. Rodriguez, Duran, Hamilton, Lutz, Vidal, Barnhart, Corcino, Hayes. Throw in Sulbaran, Stephenson, Cisco, Soto, Rosa and others. All of them won't make it but I can envision a shiny future ahead. Safety in numbers and all that.

Re: 3 years when the dust clear
Another thing to consider regarding prospects: The Reds have relatively higher picks in the 2012 draft due to their mediocre 2011 season. They also have a supplemental pick for the loss of Ramon Hernandez. If they lose Francisco Cordero, there is another supplemental pick. The Reds recent track record in the draft suggests that they will do well with 2-3 picks before the second round. This opportunity, combined with last years draft, as well as player development, may "reload" the Reds top prospect lists with younger players for the next wave of big leaguers. I certainly do not see anything wrong with Reds prospects graduating to the major league team or being traded for needs on the major league team.

At this point, only Edinson's mom has any love for him, Yonder is a hitter who will always be defensively challenged (the 21st century Hal McRae), and 2 unproven prospects who may be eventual All-Stars, or not. |
