Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
The last time the Reds had three picks in the 'first round' it didn't turn out terrible. Mesoraco, Lotzkar and Frazier came from that one. Two Major Leaguers and arguably our third best starting pitching prospect.

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
If we do end up with a college pitcher in the first round, I really hope we make a run at Jorge Soler, who was officially declared a FA over the weekend.

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
If there is much thunder in Roache's bat as people say and we clearly needed corner prospects who can mash, then why don't we draft him in the first round anyway? It doesn't seem to me that a broken wrist is career altering. He sounds like he could be a fast mover as well.

Report: Astros To Select Appel By Ed Creech [June 3 at 4:24pm CST] The Houston Astros will select Stanford's Mark Appel with the first overall pick in tomorrow's amateur draft, according to ESPN's Jim Bowden (via Twitter). Appel, a Houston native, pitched Stanford to a 9-1 victory over Fresno State this past Friday in the opener of regional play. Appel tossed a complete game four-hitter and struck out 11 in avenging his only loss of the season. Appel has compiled a 2.27 ERA, 9.6 K/9, and 2.0 BB/9 in 119 innings (15 starts) for the Cardinal. |

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
I need to do some serious research tonight, or I'm gonna be grossly unprepared for this draft. MLB draft tracker here I come!
So we got the two polished college arms in Stratton and Wacha, the defensive whiz in Merrero, the power bat in Shaffer, and the boom or bust high school arm in Giolito. Anybody else I should be on the lookout for? |

Anybody but the 5'9" reliever. I'll be in full overreaction mode if that turns out to be the case.

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
I don't think the Reds will go down that road. I am just reading their history here, but the Reds haven't drafted a 'reliever' in the first two rounds since Sean Watson in 2006 and even then, they tried to make him a starter. The Reds also aren't a "short guy" team. I would be incredibly surprised if the Reds went there.

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
Past midnight now so the draft is coming SOON. The Reds have been linked a lot lately to Stephen Piscotty the Stanford 3rd baseman. Athletic guy who projects to be able to stay there and has a good all around bat - a Votto like hitter from what I've read. Power but more of a good line drive hitter who uses all fields, makes good contact, will walk, good eye, should hit for a good average with decent power. Still gets out of synch from time to time but his flaws seem minor, mostly coachable stuff. I wouldn't be surprised - he is a toolsy corner guy and seems to fit the type the Reds draft high. More all around athlete than focused on 1 or 2 tools.

I really hope the Reds don't take Stratton. He's already 22 and I think that #14 is way too high for him

Re: 2012 MLB Draft order
I would like to see the Reds draft 5 pitchers in the first 6 rounds all hard throwers
