Yea, big moves are ok getting their own thread. Gives us a specific place to talk about a "big" move, per se.

In re: Masset, not a bad deal. If Masset can put his head together, he could (and momentarily is) NASTY. Could be a huge bargain.

It's a risk play, 2 years for a chance at a top reliever at a bargain price.
if Massett keeps it together for a full season he can be really tough. Then this will look really cheap.

Re: Masset, Reds agree to 2 yrs, $5.5 Million

I thought Masset was getting traded. Wrong again.

I don't really get the move, he wasn't very good last year, it's a lot of money for the Reds to spend on a seventh inning reliever.

But at least they seem very focused on pitching and pitching depth, which is a good place to be.

Given that both Marshall and Madsen could be gone by 2013, I can understand the move.

He was horrible in April and August, lucky in July. In May and June, he was very good, September he was dominant. He started slow in 2010 too.

Good risk. He's been a good reliever and you have to reward some guys.

Sounds like the pitching equivalent of Jay Bruce.

Massett could be a sleeper this year. He certainly still has the stuff.

I'm a Nick Masset fan he has talent, his stuff is down right nasty.

Unlike some fans here I don't like labeling or slotting guys as 6th inning, 7th inning, 8th or 9th inning pitchers. Either you have the stuff to get hitters out or you don't. Nick IMHO has the stuff to get hitters out.

If guys like Willie Harris and Dioner Navarro have a chance to make $1 million a season Nick Masset is certainly worth 2 yrs $5.5. (IMO)
