Glad to see this. I always felt Bruce was heavier than necessary. He looks great in these pics.

The part about how if you match up a pitcher with a high ERA against pitchers with a low ERA, you will win some of the games but not most of them is genius. So Dusty has come up with a stategy of putting a starter with a low ERA (not a high one; don't get confused!) in his Opening Day/#1 spot in the rotation.

I wonder how Bronson will feel about being the example of a higher ERA veteran who if you put him in the #1 spot, you aren't going to win most of the games he starts. A manager who is good at talking to the media just might avoid using his players in a negative example like this, even if it is true.

Re: Spring Training 2012 Articles

I wonder how deeply into the season the 1 vs 1 match ups persist. It seems to me that by mid-May rotations no longer sync up.

*Dusty Baker has a rotation order in mind after No. 1 starter Johnny Cueto. But he’s not telling…

“There’s no need to,” Baker said. “I’ve got it figured out. I had it figured out this winter.”

The five-man rotation has six contenders. Besides Cueto, there is Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo, Mike Leake, Homer Bailey and Aroldis Chapman.

.....

Early arrivals: Drew Stubbs entered the clubhouse today. Brandon Phillips tweeted that he was in Phoenix and planned to get to the complex.
