Re: Album Oriented Rock (AOR)--A dying radio format.
Headstrong - Adriana (2002)
Shortly after the release of their self-titled CD and this ensuing AOR one hit wonder, this London, Ontario based band had the rug pulled out from under them by their own record label -- funding was pulled for their tour with Tommy Lee and everything began to unravel. Disenchanted, the band broke up shortly thereafter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnQ2D6dniSA AC/DC - Shot Down In Flames (1979) While "Girls Got Rhythm" and the classic title track from the Highway To Hell album still receive significant Classic Rock/AOR airplay today, this former AOR hit from said LP -- the last to feature the late Bon Scott on vocals -- has fallen through the cracks as one the few AC/DC AOR hits that radio hasn't killed. This is a really catchy track about the perils of picking up women, which I'm sure more men have experienced than will admit. ![]() If you have even a passing interest in AC/DC, you must give this one a listen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R2734wYgSg I'll add more Lost Rock Tracks this week and I'll try to submit at least two each week.

Coverdale and Page Pride and Joy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K1imlqZiOw I thought I was the only one who liked this album until I looked up its chart history. It went platinum with four AOR hits. Shake My Tree was my favorite of those, but I couldn't find a decent version on youtube.

http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=S...Coverdale/Page I would have liked to have seen/heard a follow-up album by Coverdale/Page. This was actually very popular during the Grunge phase; which, as others have pointed out, created one of the most diverse eras in AOR radio history. Two other eras arguably as diverse as the early '90s: The early 80's - Everything from Firefall to Iron Maiden and everything in-between, including Synth Pop/New Wave. Much of the '70s - Music which constitutes a great deal of Classic Rock playlists today -- including what would be considered deeper/lost cuts today -- plus, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Sly And the Family Stone. In addition, Earth, Wind and Fire (Shining Star) and Donna Summer (Hot Stuff) actually garnered AOR airplay around this time period.

Re: Album Oriented Rock (AOR)--A dying radio format.
The music of the last two decades is plenty diverse, it is the radio stations that aren't. In the past you could hear a decent variety on a good AOR station, now to hear that same mix you have to listen to New Rock, Top Hits, Alternative, and R & B.

I always liked that Coverdale/Page record. They were supposed to tour but advance ticket sales were so low they wound up cancelling most, if not all of the tour. I always felt that the failure of that directly led to the Page/Plant project that came after.

Simply using newer Rock as an example, it seems as though one would be hard-pressed to find a Rock station that plays everything from Alabama Shakes to Pantera today. Whereas, in decades past, yesteryear's equivalent of the aforementioned bands - and everything between - on one AOR station was the norm.

Re: Album Oriented Rock (AOR)--A dying radio format.
Speaking of the Plant/Page project..
Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - Most High (1998) Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - Shining In The Light (1998) Two former/lost monster AOR hits from the Walking Into Clarksdale CD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZFo78UjZJI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHz8t6ttj4k As a bonus, the first and, IMHO, still the best Robert Plant solo AOR hit. Robert Plant - Burning Down One Side (1982) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EacoRd2NRLU Tune in tomorrow as I'll provide an answer to an AOR question from another thread by presenting more lost AOR hits.

Re: Album Oriented Rock (AOR)--A dying radio format.
At least one poster in another thread wanted to know if the band Foghat had any other AOR hits to their credit other than "Slow Ride", "Fool For The City" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You" -- personal take: the first two -- mostly due to overplay -- = meh to me, and the latter is far, far away the best of the three.
As for the answer to the original question, here ya go in chronological order: Foghat - Drivin' Wheel (1977) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UscivHCSVgw Foghat - Stone Blue (1978) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0McO4sY8pA Foghat - Third Time Lucky (First Time I Was A Fool) (1979) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_uoeMBn8JM Foghat - Stranger In My Hometown (1980) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I5e5Zm1gNE Foghat - Live Now - Pay Later (1981) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOkTwmgLJWI Foghat - Slipped, Tripped, Fell In Love (1982) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwXyb0esHcE If you have only previously associated Foghat with their big three signature tracks, my hope is that as you give the band's lost AOR hits a listen, you will gain a new appreciation for the late vocalist/guitarist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett and the other members of Foghat, who collectively left an indelible mark on the World of Rock And Roll as a Blues Rock band. Adieu from R4Blue.

Not to mention the fact that Foghat came out with the best album cover of all-time.

I'd plum forgotten about the "Rock And Roll" album, and the fact that it produced this lost track from the formative years of the AOR radio format. Foghat - What A Shame (1973) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4us4a-05frM

Re: Album Oriented Rock (AOR)--A dying radio format.
I've been listening to Robert Plant's solo stuff the last few days. Today, at the end of school, I played "Big Log" for the class. They weren't appreciative, but I didn't care. At least they got a little music before they went back to their factory produced hip hop.
Eighth graders.
