Who's next up for an extension?

With Votto under control through 2023, Phillips through 2017, Bruce through 2017, Cueto through 2015, Chapman through (at least) 2015, and Marshall through 2015, and Cozart, Latos, Mesoraco, Stubbs, Leake, and others still on rookie contracts, the question becomes:

Who is next up for a contract extension for the Reds, if anyone?

I wait until after we see how Latos does in GABP this season.

I feel like I should go talk to Bob and see if I can milk a million or two out of him for my services as a fan and on again / off again message board contributor.

How about Corky Miller's stache?

Re: Who's next up for an extension?

They're most likely tapped-out at this point, but I've been wondering if it might make sense to approach Madson. He obviously can't expect the Reds to exercise that $11 million option for next year; but at the same time, he can't be expecting a windfall free-agent contract, either. It will already cost the club $2.5 million to let him walk. I wonder if he'd do three to five years at around $5-7 million per. I don't know whether it fits the club's budget plans, but it could be a nice value.

I hope there's a space on reserve in the Reds Hall of Fame.

How about locking Bruce up a bit longer, before he commands a Votto-sized contract.

Re: Who's next up for an extension?

Scott Rolen, 20 years, 500 million dollar contract

had to get that in.

At risk of making this board explode, the answer might be Dusty Baker.

I'm not thinking that long, but a restructured deal where they pay him $2.5million this season, and guarantee next season with a club option after that makes sense in the price range you mentioned.

Re: Who's next up for an extension?

I think you could look at deals locking up Cozart and Mex to ensure some cost predictability through their arbitration years. Reason to do it early is to do it before they explode. This might not be for a year or two esp with Mez as his more limited playing time will hamper a huge cost in growth.
