Re: Tuesday 5/15/2012 Minor League Updates..
Hamilton has now added a bases-loaded double and it's 5-0 Blaze. Lohman drove him in again.
What I don't understand is: if Tucker Barnhart could score from first on Hamilton's hit, how could Hamilton only get to second? |

Re: Tuesday 5/15/2012 Minor League Updates..
Billy is definitely adding some pop. I figured he would. He was a string-bean at 6-1, 160, but word is he's a bit more muscular this year. I love it. He doesn't need to hit HRs, but if he can lace doubles and triples, he's going to be fun to watch. That was his 8th double of the season. Eight doubles and 7 triples already. Wow.

Ha, they must have thrown to third and not even tried to get Barnhart at home. Maybe Barnhart was running on the play. Any chance it was a 3-2 count?

Actually, the play-by-play says that he did go to third on the throw home. But they credited him with a double.

It's Doyle's first start, and he's acting as though he'd like another: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

5 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 4 k.
Edit: That's odd. I've tried three times, and the capitals aren't working. Must be time to go to bed. Last edited by mace; 05-15-2012 at 11:36 PM. |

FWIW, Bakersfield's opponent, Stockton, is working on a 15-game losing streak.

I doubt just about anyone in the California League from an offensive standpoint, just like I doubt just about anyone in the Florida State League when it comes to pitching and posting a good ERA. They are like playing in the Mid 90's Coors or pitching in Petco.

Re: Tuesday 5/15/2012 Minor League Updates..
39 years ago today I was just starting my first day of basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. There is a story here. Well near the end of basic training a bunch of recruits hopped on some buses and took in a minor league baseball game. I am sure it must have been in the old Texas League but don't quote me. They had a promotion during the 7th-inning stretch where they picked a fan to come and stand on the mound and hurl one in at a wooden cutout of a catcher. There was a tiny hole in the glove of the cutout. They just so happened to pick an air force recruit and all the drunken airmen went crazy. This guy gets up on the mound, still holding a precious cup of beer in his other hand, and bullseye. The ball goes through the hole in the mitt with laser-like precision. Pure pandemonium. Everyone got to exchange their ticket for a future game. This didn't help us airmen as we were all soon to be heading elsewhere But it was pretty exciting nonetheless. Another thing I remember from that night is that as we were all leaving there was this one enterprising kid about 10-12 standing at the exit gate asking all of us for our ticket stubs. He had a fistful to be sure. I bet he owns that team now.
