Somewhere Mutaman is smiling today....
....because Walt finally listened. We got us an honest-to-goodness, left-handed outfield bat. Joey Gathright! WHO??? Joey Gathright! He has been assigned to Louisville. When you are batting .240 for the Bridgeport Bluefish in the independent Atlantic League, you are ready.
So now we have Joey Gathright if an outfielder goes down. And Willie Harris if an infielder goes down. Let's see: Over 30 - check Fast - check Can't get on base - check No power - check Plays CF - check I see some serious leadoff potential here. This is the most athletic little guy ever. He's the guy who can't hit a lick but running full speed down the line jumped over the first baseman trying to tag him...then was a YouTube hero jumping over cars and stuff. Maybe faster than Stubbs....but hits like Willie Harris without the extra base hits. But man he's fast! |

I like the signing in the fact that he could be a heck of a pinch runner and defensive replacement late in games if he ever makes enough contact to get called up. Hate it because if he gets called up you can say good bye to heisey with the history dusty has.
