With the Draft approaching who do you trust more?

Mock Draft

Bleacher Report
14)Chris Stratton, RHP, Mississippi State

The Reds are always looking for pitchers who can keep the ball in the park, as they play in a bandbox of sorts Stratton is a guy with a reputation for keeping hitters off balance.

TTF Baseball
Max Fried, LHP, Harvard-Westlake HS (CA)

Fried, a teammate of Giolito, is the top prep left-hander in the draft and has one of the better curveballs in the country, regardless of class. His fastball sits in the low-90s with late sink and his change-up is a developing plus pitch. He went 8-3 this season with a 2.41 ERA and 111 strikeouts over 69.2 innings. At 6’-4”, he has the frame to develop more velocity .

I haven't seen much of either pitcher to make a decision/thought there. I saw Marrero on Team USA throughout last summer, thought he was pretty good overall. Have his auto so at least have a jump on that if he comes our way

Marrero was a 17th round pick of the REDS in 2009...should they draft him again??

All I hope for is that Bill Bavasi's opinion isn't listened to.

If given a choice I prefer college players over HS players.

Agree. Big-time power arm, aggressive kid.

I want the best bat that will be big league ready the fastest. Ideally a LH hitting OF or 3B. Although I know LH hitting 3B isn't exactly common.

I'm not sure it's a good idea (in fact, I think it's a VERY bad idea) to draft based on the needs of this year's Reds team. Way too much can happen in between the time these guys are drafted and they get to the majors (if they ever do). I think you just have to take the player you feel the best about, regardless of position.

Exactly. That's what perennial winning organizations do.

You have better chances of hitting it big in vegas then you do in the MLB draft.

well the Reds have had a pretty good track record then of Major league players in the 1st round.

04. Homer Bailey
05. Jay Bruce
06. Drew Stubbs
07. Devin Mesoraco
08. Yonder Alonso
09. Mike Leake
10. Yasmani Grandal

throw in supplemental choices like Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier.

all have made the majors and become productive players.

not many teams have that track record of getting productive players in the 1st round even the best ones have had players who do nothing in the minors.

Look at the total number of draft picks a ML team has per season and how many turn out to be ML talent. Heck are best player wasn't even a first round pick. Of all the professional sports, baseball is the biggest crap shoot when it comes to the draft.

I dont know if I would say that. There are plenty of rounds to draft talent. What was Piazza? What was Votto? I know what you are saying, nothing is etched in stone.
