Four Cubans Granted Free Agency

We all know Jorge Soler (and the likelihood of his signing with someone other than Cincinnati). Most know the hard-throwing reliever.

But Henry Urrutia is flying a bit under the rader, IMO. He's reputed to have a good glove as a corner OF and 1B, okay speed, and great obp. He hit .365 in his last season in Cuba, with a .444 slugging percentage and a 15+% BB rate. He's 24 or 25 (both are used) and a free agent. He's a switch hitter and doesn't K at all-- 29 Ks in 271 PAs.

His total line-- 365/517(!)/444/961-- might not play immediately in the bigs, but could be a AAA guy the rest of this season and a nice #2 hitter as early as September.

I'm not familiar with the Soler situation. Why is it a certainty he'd sign with the Reds?

Re: Four Cubans Granted Free Agency

It's not a certainty that Jorge Soler will sign with someone other than Cincinnati-- however, Cincinnati hasn't been "in" on him. At all. Big pocket spenders (Cubs, Blue Jays, Red Sox, and Phils are the primary teams) are on him big-time.

The reliever-- Omar Luis Rodriguez-- is young and a hard-thrower also believed to be coveted by big spenders, the Yankees in particular.

Urritia, meanwhile, has kind of been the forgotten guy. He's been a legitimate BA/OBP guy for most of his time in Cuba and in International competitions.
