I'm betting the Pirates take him now.

Does it do so more than him going to college and dominating there? I don't think it does.

Pirates grab the Appel.

Maybe. Maybe not. I'd draft him, play a bit of hardball, then take the pick again next season if need be.

Those supplemental picks really help at this point-- you could then gamble big-time with them, taking high talent, hard-sign prospects.

Or you could go with Giolito (my personal favorite) and his 100 mph fastball. (When healthy.)

No offensive player really jumps out at you-- though you might be able to argue Courtney Hawkins, the HS OF, if he drops that far.

Wow, Pirates get Appel. They are building a nice farm system of top arms.

Pirates must be grinning from ear to ear to have Appel fall to them.

Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 1)

At some point you'd figure that somebody is going to be willing to go over budget to draft Appel, I mean you're drafting at the back end of the draft you'd figure a #1 pick is worth way more than two #25 picks.

Wow. Appel fell to the Pirates. Could you imagine a rotation with Cole, Taillon, Appel?

Appel if Pirates can sign him will have 3 great young arms in the near future.
