Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)

Callis said he's not overpowering, but he knows how to use all of his pitches and pitched well in the Cape Cod League, as he lead the league in Ks.

This looks like a possible sleeper pick here. I like it!

I'm guessing either an OF or a pitcher. College reliever, perhaps.
I wouldn't worry about any minor leaguer "having a position", since most will fall by the wayside before they reach the majors.

Alonso and Grandal didn't have positions either.

Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)

Moscot is a guy who profiles to remain a starter until he proves he isn't as opposed to a reliever from the git go. Has a fair arsenal of pitches to begin with and fair command. Has an idea of how to pitch, mixes his pitches.

I think with pro coaching and experience he might turn into a solid #3 MOR starter with a ceiling maybe #2. He can get it up to 96 so he has arm strength, not a soft tosser even if he's not a flamethrower.

Add to that he's a college pitcher with that polish, signable, and should move fairly quickly as compared to a high schooler.

Yea, at this point, everyone is going to have warts. I'm pleased with this pick.
Heck, if you get a #4 or #5 draft pick to be a contributor out of the bullpen, that's a major success, IMO.

Funny, he doesn't sound polish

I love what the Reds have done to this point. I can't fault this draft.

Agreed. Beck, T.Williams, and Mazilli are all names to watch here in the fifth round.

If the Reds got and signed Trey Williams in this round I'd pass out with happiness. With my heart that's not much of an exaggeration.

I have to think he's signalled he's going to college if he doesn't get ahigher pick. Too mich talent to fall this far.

Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)

The 5th round has begun. So far, the Reds have drafted nothing but Hall of Famers and All-Stars.
