Looks like, finally (since they open tonight), a roster:

Re: AZL Reds
Five catchers. One of them is Lhimmy Lopez, not to be confused with his teammate, Yimmy Lopez . . . Wait a minute. On further inspection, I think they should be confused. They have the same birth date. However, Lhimmy is 6-2, 190, and Yimmy is 6-0, 216. Hmm.

Re: AZL Reds
Same hometown. Looks like Like Lhimmy's real name is Jhimmy. So Jhimmy and Yimmy.

Re: AZL Reds
I wonder what Covington's health situation is like? Other than Garrett he's the pitcher that interests me the most.

Re: AZL Reds
Well, they've got a 3rd baseman named Jonathan Perez who, it appears, spent 3-4 very unproductive years in the DSL as part of the Diamondbacks organization. But no mention of Jonathan Perez, the Reds' top international signee from last year. Weird.
Could be quite the interesting pitching staff once the real J. Perez and Travieso are on it.

Re: AZL Reds
Some observations and questions for those closer to the game. After subtracting 60 Day DL, I get the following makeup of the Billings and AZL rosters.
AZL: 17 Pitchers and 20 Position players (including 5 catchers) BILL: 20 Pitchers and 15 Position players and...there are several more signings yet to come. That seems like a lot of pitchers to develop over a short season...not many innings to go around. Ditto for the position players at AZL. Does this reflect a shift in strategy toward developing more pitchers, more cautiously with fewer game innings pitched and more side sessions to work on mechanics? They are carrying extra catchers that could accommodate such an approach in the AZL. 2012 draft picks at Billings are likely to see limited innings so I would expect a core group to get the majority of innings. Is there a limit to roster size for rookie level teams? Does this foretell releases at the higher levels to make room for promotions? |

Re: AZL Reds
A;do Guzman's a biggin (6-4/235). Wonder how good he is at making contact?
Even with the iinjury to Valor, I could still see them starting three SS's in the infield (Washington @ 2B, Peterson @SS and Rahier @3B). |

Re: AZL Reds
It wouldn't shock me to see Winker brought back to Goodyear after the CWS. Especially if Gelalich, Amaral, Pigott and Matthews all sign (although I do agree that Gelalich may start in Dayton).

Re: AZL Reds
The rookie rosters are 35, but you can only have 30 players active on a given day. However, if the other team agrees, you can use a player who is not on that days active roster.
