Suspicious Mail. What to Do?
I just got a letter at my address directed to someone else.
I do not recognize the name as a neighbor or previous owner of this house (I've been here for 7 years). Its from TurboTax with a plastic card inside, making me presume it's somebody's tax rebate. But the address and name make me suspicious that it may be a fraud. So. Do I just give it back to the mailman? or should I go to the post office with my suspicions? Or to the police? My wife suggest destroying it, but I think that would be illegal. Suggestions?

Have your wife open it.

Re: Suspicious Mail. What to Do?
You can mark it "Not at this address" and/or attach a note to it if a trip to the post office or waiting for your mailman is too much trouble.

"Return to Sender - Wrong Address" is the only answer as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps a "check your credit report" suggestion might be in line here.
