Wildcard Madness

A few things to note:

- Boston & Toronto, two last place teams, are only 1.5 games back thanks to the additional wildcard spot

- Baltimore is tied for the lead despite allowing 43 more runs than they've scored (the team they're tied with has 43 more runs than they've allowed)

- Oakland is half a game back

- St. Louis is 3.5 games back with a +65 run differential

- The Twins really, really suck

those are all some crazy stats. the cardinals are 4.5 back btw

3.5 back in the wildcard. 11 of the 14 American League teams are within 1.5 games of a playoff spot right now. Should make for a very interesting august and september and a very difficult trade deadline if you are a contender with needs. 8 of 16 teams in the National League are withing 3.5 games right now. The rest are at least 7 out.

I Hate the 1 game wildcard playoff- yeah its a little added excitement but really, 162 games & 1 loss eliminates you from post season play? just doesnt go with the 'marathon' baseball season and makes no sense to me.

Because of this, the trade deadline market is going to be very THIN and very EXPENSIVE...
