Tuesday 9/04/2012 Minor League Updates..

Only one game. But it matters.

Billings travels to Helena.

Ryan Fennell throwing the seed for the Mustangs tonight. He went just two innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Nick Routt came on in the third and was nearly routted. He gave up a hit and three walks but only one run. Jordan Remer pitched a scoreless fourth.
It has been a back-and-forth affair. Billings struck for two runs first. Helena tied it and then went ahead 3-2. The Mustangs have regained the lead at 4-3.
Robert Maddox has walked and homered, scoring twice and driving in one.
Jeff Gelalich has doubled and tripled, scoring twice and driving in one. Fray Sosa has singled in a pair.

Billings up 5-3 now, and Missoula is tied at 1.

If I understand the tie breaking rules correctly, tonight's game is irrelevant.

In the event of a second half tie, the winner of the most head to head games for the entire season, wins the second half. At the moment, the Mustangs have a one game advantage with two head to head to end the season. They are also one game up on Missoula in the standings.

If they end the night up two games, they still must win one of the final two games or they would lose the tie breaker.

If they end the night one game up, then they also must win at least one game.

If they end the night tied, they must win one game also.

Perhaps knowing this, Kelly started Fennell, and is saving his best pitchers for the Missoula series.

Makes sense. What an odd situation. Doesn't matter if they are tied or one or two games up.
Went back and looked at their schedule. This would have been a Drew Cisco start. So I guess it is Cisco and Romano in the last two games.
