There's an Australian Story about the Dog on the Tucker Box
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_on_the_Tuckerbox I went to the monument as a boy and it always impressed me. Life imitates legend sometimes.

Dogs just seem so much more loyal than humans (in general terms, not across the board).

Great story, it reminds me of the story of Haichi the Akita who went to the train station every day for 9 years after his master died of a heart attack at work and never returned on the train. I have an Akita so I am partial to this story.
