I tend to be of the opinion that unnamed sources are fine so long as you identify them as such. People should take an unnamed source with the grain of salt. Some times there's a good reason why someone would be an unnamed source, but sometimes its just because they're afraid of being identified because they're perhaps not being 100% truthful about their own role in something.

But when a host says he is pulling from "multiple published sources," and then can't back up what he says with the exception of 1 source that isn't what he said it was. That's simply slinging mud.

Let's get specific. If you go public with a quote from a famous person like the head coach from a school like OSU, you ought to be able to back it up. If you're not comfortable revealing the source then you ought not go public with it. Urban Meyer deserves the chance to defend himself. If we don't at least have that level of standards in journalism then we'll be at a point where we tune it all out because we can't decipher fact from fiction

If you start revealing your sources, you soon won't have any sources. There is a reason that some journalist wind up in jail over not revealing their sources on things.
