Mat Latos: Success through Simplicity?

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index...ed-his-season/

Ben Duronio at Fangraphs just posted an article in which he looked at why Mat Latos has been so much more successful in the 2nd half. He makes the interesting observation that Latos basically ditched his change up and upped usage of his curve, particularly against lefties.

I'm wondering if anybody has seen this discussed elsewhere, be it from Latos or Price or whomever else. And further, assuming this was a purposeful change, what's the connection between this change and his increased effectiveness? Is it as simple as "lefties were killing his changeup"?

Wonder if he was tipping his changeup? The Cleveland game on 6/18 was when he accused their runners of stealing signs, and their players responded with "stop tipping your pitches then", or something to that effect. He was pretty much nails after that, other than the StL game...but he always has problems with them.

Interesting; I had forgotten about that.
