    A-Rod as a Red?

Since it's the season now for silly trade talk, what if the Yankees are ready to move A-Rod along and pick up all or almost all of the salary. Think a change of scene, a move to the NL, GABP, etc. makes A-Rod productive for a few more years? Who says "no" to Heisey and Ondrusek for A-Rod (most of salary picked up by NYY)?

Heck ya bring on Arod and let Frazier spell Arod, Votto, Phillips, and all the OF spots all season. Arod can still play but the Yanks would have to puck up almost all of his contract to make it work for me.

    No thanks.

We already have enough guys that forget how to hit once the playoffs start.

The guy is terrible and is still owed something like $175 million.

I don't think we're in a position to overpay for a guy known for slumping in the post season.
I've said all winter — they talk about this team winning the division — and my comment is, they won't win it because, at the end of the day, they still are the Chicago Cubs, and they will figure out a way to screw this whole thing up. - Marty Brennaman

This thought crossed my mind yesterday while watching the Yankees play. But looking at his power numbers the past couple years, no thanks. But it's definitely an intriguing thought.

He has a no trade clause but for the sake of argument it depends on how much they wanted to eat. If they covered enough to get him 5 for 25 AAV max I would say yes. Say it broke down 8-7-5-3-2 we would be paying him some the first two years but them getting him with next to no risk at the end of his run so every at that price would be a bonus.

Moving to the NL Central from the AL East would be a nice break for him, and going from the big LCF an the new Yankees Stadium to GABP would be a good fit as well. Plus his chase for 700 and then potentially 762 HR would draw people as well as 3000 hits and his quest to lead MLB In All-Time Runs and RBI.

He is owed 28-25-21-20-20 for the next 5 years. You really think the Yankees are going to pay him an average of $17.8 million per year for 5 years to not play for them?

And I wouldn't take him if the Reds could get him for your crazy numbers.

No thanks. Not the same player off the 'roids and a bad presence in the clubhouse.

You guys should acquire him, maybe he will attract a few more fans to your games.

I'd hate to see him come to Cincinnati. And I don't think he'd be any more likely to break out for us come playoff time than he has been in NY. Finally, the "If" is pretty unlikely--the Yankees picking up most/all of his salary? Not too likely.

For context, the Yankees paid 60% of Burnett's salary to send him to the Pirates (for non-event prospects). In doing so the Yankees basically closed the gap between what his contract was and what the market said his contract should be. Who's to say that the Yankees wouldn't be willing to cover 70-80% of the salary (probably the difference between the $28 he's owed and the amount someone might give him off the street right now) and then the numbers start to be workable if - and big if - the Reds think he's a fit. The amount the Yankees would pick up should theoretically increase were we to send back a legit prospect or a ML-ready talent like Heisey or Ondrusek.

Not pushing for it. Just food for thought over a long off-season.
