Hopefully they can tie Bailey up for a couple of extra years but i don't know how optimistic I am about it.

Re: Reds arbitration #'s

Bailey's numbers are close enough, IMO, to at least get a one-year deal done, if not the beginnings of an LTC.

I'd be pretty hard-line with Choo, as they're only going to have him for one year. (Though, to be fair, I can't see how he's worth less than $8 million.)

Bailey made $2.425 in 2012 so even if he goes to arbitration and loses he will get a raise of at least $2.325.

I'd offer Cho $33 million for three yearsand see what happens...

8, 12, 13....

Try to lock Baily and Latos down for the next 7 years...

Choo's a one year rental. Very unlikely that happens. Yes, that's putting a lot of eggs in the Billy Hamilton basket, but that seems to be the plan/hope...

I'm not comfortable locking down any pitcher for 7 years, but if you can bypass the arbitration years, that would be a good thing.

I agree its very unlikely to happen. But I'd also look to try to sign Choo up. When Billy is ready, Choo moves to left and Ludwick becomes a great bench bat and fills in for Choo/Bruce against tough lefties. Would LOVE to see it happen, but I doubt it would. Walt said as much when he announced the trade.

That's 25 million in arbitration if the Reds players get everything they want-but how often do the Reds actually go all the way through the arbitration process.

Almost never. You'll see the Reds and the players end up splitting the difference for most of them. Maybe Bailey and Latos get longer deals this year. I'd find a way to sign Choo long term also. He's younger and better than Ludwick.

Choo is a Boras client and will be looking for the deal of his life after the season. The Reds have Ludwick signed and a top prospect waiting in the wings to take Choo's spot. I'll happily take his big year drive for his next deal and move on. If he signs all the better, but its not a must do and not very likely IMO.

All those figures that the players are asking seem pretty reasonable. No one's looking to break the bank.

I can't remember the last time the Reds actually went to arbitration with a player. Maybe about 10 years or so ago.

Yep. 2004 Chris Reitsma was the last time.

Forgot about the Boras part... Just lowball him in arbitration.

Sign him for 2013 using the $3 Million the Indians sent along with him and then make a qualifying offer after the season and get the draft pick. Even if Choo wins his arb case. he'd only cost a net $5 Million which is only a couple million more than they would have paid Stubbs to stink up the joint.

Re: Reds arbitration #'s

I'd just love to see this sometime.

Bailey filed for 4M, Reds countered with 5M. Arbitration hearing likely.
