I feel like the Hamilton for Volquez trade was part of a (good) house of cards. It filled needs of both teams at the time. But beyond that, I've always felt like dealing with Volquez's successes and failures forced the team to solidify a long-term pitching plan. I can't quite put my finger on why, and that's not to say they wouldn't have done so otherwise, but I dunno, I've just always felt like Volquez has had long-term implications on the staff we have now.
