Does anyone think Derrick Robinson has a chance, he has been pretty good this sprint (I know, means nothing). I think he will at least be the first call up for an injury. any thoughts?

His minor league stats are really unimpressive and over a very long stretch of time. I have a hard time believing that these stats over just one spring training is enough to prove that suddenly he's a completely different player.

Good insurance policy if Choo is hurt during the year. Choo has been injury prone the last few years and so far this spring that trend seems to be continuing. Although most of them have been minor injuries it seemed like he was always ailing while with Cleveland.

He'll be AAA depth, because Xavier Paul is on the 40-man and did very well for us last year. However, he seems like a great guy to have waiting in the wings: he's a switch hitter who can switch hit, lead off if necessary, and get on base fairly reliably. He's got no power or real hit tool to speak of, but you take what you can get from a backup. I expect him to get a call up before Hamilton so as not to interrupt the latter's development.

so, i think this is becoming a real possibility with Ludwick getting hurt

Even if they do call up Robinson, he isn't going to play. He will be used as a pinch runner and perhaps a late inning defensive replacement. Don't expect him to get at bats, because frankly, he isn't much of a hitter. That can be said for anyone they are likely to call up unless they go full boar and bring up Hamilton.

.650ish minor league OPS most seasons. Probably will lead-off twice per week. Ewww! Casper Wells gets my vote. Deal Arredondo for him.

Robinson gets the call I'm sure, but unfortunately it's going to be quite the loss of slugging on this team/bench. I think the only guy that could make up for that is Lutz, but I don't think there's any way they rush him when they're all about not rushing Hamilton.

What does Derrick Robinson add that Denis Phipps doesn't? Phipps all day, every day.

Can't say I disagree with this one bit. You've got to think that Phipps gives you more, even if you do sacrifice some speed.

Iīd rather have Phipps up in the big league than Robinson...

i don't mind either Phipps or Robinson, but I think Robinson is a better defender

im going to try and said this withouy soumding like a jerk, but this is why baseball is so great. You never know when you're gonna get that call, unfortunately it was at Ryan's expense.

I'm not saying Robinson will play a lot but his in the show, and who could ask for more. I wish Ludwick a speedy recover, but Derrick needs to make the most of it because it could be gone in a flash.

That was my deep thought of the day.;)

it's official I am the leader of the Derrick Robinson fan club. The way he showed bunt and got Zim to move out of position, then it that nice grounder right by him. Also, he has speed speed speed:laugh:

I actually wouldn't mind a spot start or two in LF for D-Rob.

I hate to say it, but I've never been a fan of Heisey. I have always wanted him to come through and hit for some average and a handful of home runs. He has the chance now to show he's not a AAAA player.

X-Man is flat out coming through on his opportunities. Also, from what I've seen and heard of D-Rob, I kind of hope he makes a home here.

Just my opinion.

Of all the replacement LFers Xavier Paul seems to have the upper hand at this point. It's just an entirely too small of a sample size right now.

I would like to see what Paul has in him with a lengthy number of at bats.

i tink Paul is def. a better hitter at this point, but I think Robinson is the better defensive playerm

I know he got picked off, and made an error in cf, but I am liking what I see from him, I think he might start to get some pt in left field and he brings speed to the lineup which reds don't have much of.

Yes, some growing pains for Robinson but I think he's earning a spot on the team. Not a bad back up to have so far.

That is a couple of major mistakes to make in one game.

I think Robinson has looked really good at the plate tonight, I am not saying he is going to b an all star, but I think for the options we have for left field right now, I think he is the best option we have, he is the best defensively and he brings speed to the lineup which we have none of.

Yes. And put him in center too. Pencil him into the 2 spot until he proves he can't handle it.

The only reason why I don't put him In center is because if u do that and then he struggles then u have to move choo back to center and I think that would not be good to keep moving choo around, now if u give Robinson a shot and he does good for an extended period of time then yes move him to center, and I would b all for Robinson batting in the 2 spot, can't b no worse than coz art has been, I feel really bad for zack he is struggling and apparently is not gonna b moved out of the 2 hole.

Did we really just pinch hit izturis for Robinson...wow..I might b wrong but wasn't he 1-1 with a walk...izturis really..

I went back and checked thom said he could have an oblique problem....that sucks

Cozart is a drain on the two spot right now. I just hope the pitching can hold up until somebody can step up offensively or a move is made.

I heard Robinson has some kind of muscle pull or something that is not allowing him to bat from the left side

BEETTLEBUG

True that is what I heard last week also.

cincyredway
05-11-2013, 01:20 PM
Is Robinson still dealing with a muscle pull, I am surprised he isn't gettin more time, and I also think lutz should get more time, I think both have far more upside than Paul, I think Paul is great coming off the bench late in games and pinch hitting.

I wish they'd give Perez a look as the LH side of a platoon. He's a.750-.800 minor leaguer with a bit of pop. Needs putting on the 40 man tho which may be the deterrent. Plus he's lefty and they really need a RH bat.
