I think we could haggle over whether Phillips should hit second or fourth, but other then that, he Dusty is playing the right guys. That's the most important thing.

We now know it's Heisey batting second against lefties. Will it change against righties? I don't think so. I think this is the lineup for the foreseeable future.

Good luck, Chris Heisey.

Latos looking good. His stuff looks nasty. I said all along last year that if he can throw his slider for a strike, he's going to be really tough to hit.

For the first couple months last year he was burying the slider in the dirt more often than not. That pitch that got Trumbo looking is a good sign.

He has OPS'd .740 and .743 the last two years. He just turned 29. Who else do you think should be there, Kendrick, Callaspo, or Iannetta? Aybar had a better OPS than all of those 3 last year. I doubt he would look to change his 3/4/5 hitters or his leadoff man.

Well this is where I disagree with the baseball book. I would move the 3/4/5 up a spot. Also I consider a .740ish hitter average. Not good.

I thought you considered him a no stick. As for OPS, it's not the only metric to show a guy can hit. He puts the ball in play, something many people think is good for a #2. Especially when you consider who will be on base in front of him.

As for the baseball book, I understand what you are getting at. Yet if you also look at the sabermetrics that show your better hitters should batter higher in the order, they will also show it will make little to no difference vs. a traditional batting order.

Overall, he is not a no stick and is not a bad option in the two spot.

We always called a wool winter hat a "toboggan" when I was growing up in Germantown, OH and Lexington, KY. Then I moved to upstate NY from 2006-2012, and they looked at me like I was insane when I used that term. I shelved it -- the hat and the term -- pretty quickly.

Latos threw 100 pitches. A little heavy for the first game. Still, he fanned the guy before the homer I can understand leaving him in.
