Per Jamie Ramsey, today's game is the Reds 20,000th game. That's a lot of game threads!

Just a quibble too - it's actually a "Business Day" special.

Changed it. Guess we need to stay PC. :) I'm sure the first game thread criticized manager Wright's lineup that day too.

OK so I want to apologize now. My 18 year old son along with 3 other 18 years olds from his baseball team left out last night after their game to go to today and tomorrow's game in Cincy. They are sitting in the Club section today so they can have "all you can eat." I assume the Reds will lose a lot of money today because of this and will probably not be able to make some moves toward the end of the season because of their extreme financial losses at today's game.

I can't remember, does Bronson like or dislike picthing day games? I know its one or the other.

His numbers are pretty close either way:

Day - .264/.318/.437/.755
Night - .265/.325/.435/.761

Aside from Albert Pujols he hasn't any of these batters an awful lot. I would think that would be advantage Bronson. He has been relatively successful against Pujols. In 89 PA, Pujols has 'only' an .877 OPS.

Only three Reds have face Blanton 10 or more times: Votto - .875, Phillips - .765 and Bruce - .533.

Bruce: 2-10, 2bb, 2K's
Frazier: 1st appearance
Coazart: 0-3, 2k
Hanigan: 1-3, 1bb

Bruce needs a Votto brain transplant.

Actually, I think that is the issue. Bruce is trying to bat like Votto.

Votto is very cerebral... He try's to out think the pitcher. He analyzes everything and decides what pitch is coming before the windup.

Bruce is an instinctual hitter, hitting his best when he isn't thinking, only reacting.

In that last at bat, it sure looked like he was trying to guess on every pitch. He was sitting on breaking ball away that last pitch and could not catch the heat.

Lots of hitters try to guess, but with Votto it's more of an educated hypothesis, but also his quick, condensed swing that allows him to foul off pitches when he guesses wrong. Bruce is simply not equipped for this approach.

Watching the replay a few times, disagree. I thought you were right at first cause the throw arrived in time, but the I saw that Frazier pulled up after catcher moved off the plate. If he hadn't, ball and runner would have arrived bang bang. No time to get the tag over.

malcontent
04-04-2013, 02:25 PM
Actually, I think that is the issue. Bruce is trying to bat like Votto.

Votto is very cerebral... He try's to out think the pitcher. He analyzes everything and decides what pitch is coming before the windup.

Bruce is an instinctual hitter, hitting his best when he isn't thinking, only reacting.

In that last at bat, it sure looked like he was trying to guess on every pitch. He was sitting on breaking ball away that last pitch and could not catch the heat.
Makes sense.

When players do poorly they tend to be criticized.
