Dirty Dan had the day off yesterday so he's probably getting him in there to get some playing time. I think it will be a 50/50 split this season at 2B.

According to the boxscore, they credited Molina with a double. But based on what you're saying, Choo dropped a fly ball? Unfortunately I can't see it, is this just home cooking by the official scorer in St. Louis?

Am I wrong when I say that Choo has had two chances on the warning track where he was moving still and butchered both plays? The one in GABP where he freaked out at the wall and had it bounce off the wall and go by him and then this one today? Scouts said he played right like he was scared of the wall. I am not seeing anything so far that suggests otherwise.

He chased it down just short of the track and had it hit the outside of his webbing, bounce up, again hit the outside of his webbing and fall just out of reach on the track. It wasn't terrible, but should have been caught. Perhaps, twice.

Seems to me Choo could have fared just as poorly in RF. Yes, he ran a good distance to get to the ball, but the ground he covered wasn't the problem. Not squeezing it in his glove was a problem. My expectations/concerns was him balking at the wall (already one occurrence) or not covering enough ground, which I have not seen as a problem...yet.

I didn't see the play, but often times with runners on the corners the runner on 3rd automatically goes on anything on the ground. Make the defense make the play and stay out of the double play. If Heisey stays at 3rd, the Cardinals probably turn two and the Reds have a runner on 3rd with 2 outs.

I said earlier. While the site was down, I drove up the street and got some Skyline for dinner. On FM 100.3 the topic of discussion was "would you trade a Reds marquee player to free up money to re-sign Choo?"

Piecoro said he'd trade Jay Bruce to do it.

Choo on that Redszone. LOL.

Yes I have. I praise the pitching a lot. I am more critical of our hitting because of our failure in many offensive areas. I have been a Reds fan for more than 45 years now and have been through both good and bad. The offensive approach this team has, whether it is Dusty's or Jacoby's, IMHO leaves a lot to be desired. Too many k's and poor patience at the plate to mention a couple of items.

Wow Choo is flat out is giving this game away on Molina outs. If things go right and Choo held on to the the two times he dropped Molina's balls and Chris takes the open half of the plate this it's at least 3-1 lead rather than a 4-2 hole.

The last 2+ games the Cardinals have 15 runs with 2 outs!

Ball hit right at you is the most difficult play in the OF. Even with all his speed, Stubbs was subpar at the "at-em" ball, misplaying a bunch of them over his head. Of course, they didn't look as bad as these plays Choo made, but it's not easy. The good ones just make it look that way. :)

mattfeet
04-08-2013, 06:14 PM
I still think Choo will be adequately sufficient in CF. I also think the brutal late-afternoon sun is part to blame for those drops today. Choo can make those plays and he will as he gets more and more comfortable. I often thought that Stubbs was also quite tentative around the wall and couldn't make those plays as well as Bruce/Heisey do. It's just unfortunate the plays that he's missed have made him look really, really, bad.

I agree. His issue has not been the routes he's taking. He's reading the ball well off the bat and getting to these, which was the primary concern before the season started. Obviously it's a concern that he's dropped two today, but I would think that's more a freak thing than something that I would expect to be a problem going forward
