The weather could be a mess for today's game. A lot of rain to the west of St. Louis. Here is the forecast:

Occasional showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. High near 73. South wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Not that it really matters, but Homer is on a 19 ip scoreless streak going back to last season. I love how aggressively he's been throwing. Keep it rollin' Homer!

Does Heisey have problems with his eyesight? He's always blinking his eyes more than anyone else and seemingly trying to focus his eyes at the last minute. Has anyone else noticed this?

Other than take a lead, not much. You could try to advance on the throw to first if you get off the bag far enough and have some speed, but you definitely don't run to the closest bag to the fielder.

I'm not super baseball savvy in terms of in-game things. What's Izturius supposed to do there? Was he basically in no-man's land?

Izturis thought the ball was a tough play for the shortstop and might even go through. I think he just misjudged the grounder and should have realized it was fairly routine.

Westbrook is succeeding today so far, getting a lot of grounders.

Bailey now struggling with his control.

He was off balance after snagging the sharply hit grounder. I think Homer made the correct play.

Had he turned to throw to second, off balance, he might have launched it into CF. Much easier play at third.

I've always wondered what happens to the balls and strikes on a batter who is at the plate when the third out is made on the basepaths. Do they disappear into the ether? Are they put into a fund for third-world baseball players who can't afford a full count? What happens to them?

Choo's defense is absolutely killing us this series.

On the replays, that one wouldn't have mattered. It was a good 2-3 feet above his glove. Game angle camera made it look like it hit his glove.

Salukifan, how do you think Carpenter has looked at second? He's looked good for someone who's new to the position. He was an infielder his whole career so the transition shouldn't be too difficult. The Cards need his bat in the lineup so they have to put him somewhere.

Actually because of my class schedule recently and matheny's over confidence in Dirty Dan at 2b this is my first viewing. Hes looked good though and had a nice pivot to throw out a runner at second
