Bruce scorched the ball, but Pirates had him, played perfectly, SS almost on the second base bag. That goes through, game could be a blow out.

??? Sounded like he scorched it, just right to the SS..

It was a hard hit grounder. But it was a routine double play ball, I wouldn't get excited that Bruce is "scorching" the ball.

Bruce's opposite field hitting is particularly helpful on the road. Traditionally, Jay hits much better at home.

At GABP, I hope he still pulls the ball on occasion, would hate to see him lose too much power by his new approach.

So what you will about Dusty, at least he is not Clint Hurdle.Snider was really slow on that steal...he got a huge jump and was still out by a good foot or two. With one out, it seemed like the right time to steal...just not sure about Snider's capability to do it. To be fair, Hanny made a textbook throw to third on that...took a big step out accross the plate and gunned it to a spot right in front of the bag. All-around good baseball IMO.

Absolutely but until that changes which, of course, it inevitably will. Have to always look across a body of work. Sometimes we (me very much included) focus on current game/current week too much. So far though, Choo has been a godsend for this team. Looking for another (hello, JV? JB? CH?) to step up for a few weeks or more to keep us at the top of the standings.

Now let's hold and build upon this lead!

Not too excited. Just giving the barest of credit. Heisey's never going to be a 40HR guy so he needs to be a better OBP guy. And if he can steal a few dozen bases or more, that'd justify a starting role imho. Big if, though. Why I haven't been an advocate of him batting so high in the batting order or every day.

Literally LOL. Nope, not looking for or expecting that. Just said I'd expect that as a precondition to Heisey keeping a spot in the lineup over the next several months and beyond. Wouldn't bet on that happening. But if he did get the BA and OBP up significantly, I would change my generally pessimistic view about him. Fair point. OBP absolutely matters so long as others are there to drive people in. Others like JV and JB, right? Even on a good day like today (so far), I find myself worrying about stuff like whether JV is going to be the same as he was and whether TF will consistently perform like I know he can. Heisey is a different case as discussed a lot on other threads. Uh-oh. Almost gone. Marte scores as it's a double. Pirates want a replay.

Replays show it hit the fan's glove. Is a HR. Crap.

And I hereby change my silly Hoover musing about the 9th. Chapman to close for sure.

I'm not a Dusty hater by any means, but it does infuriate me that he tends to leave his starter in just a touch too long.

Ruled a double. Never mind...just Kelch running his mouth. Should be a HR

Was anybody warming besides Logan? I only saw 1 warming. But I agree with Broxton as the right call.

I think I would go ahead and get Broxton in the game now.
Can't. Broxton = 8th inning.

Ondrusek in.

That side replay shows he was reaching over. Should be a double on second thought. And it is. Ground rule double due to fan interference.

Crazy how long this replay review is taking.

For the record, Price makes that call, pretty much every time. But yeah, whoever makes that call, likes to leave in the starter in too long.

WP for his first pitch. Uh-oh.

Double by McCutchen on the second pitch. 5-3 Reds.

What in the world? Now Parra is warming up? Why?

They're going to blow this game. When you have to run this guy out there, you're in trouble.

I don't get it. How many chances does a guy get with this organization to prove he's terrible???

No. Announcers have this right. The "interference" was well into HR territory and not below the HR line. Should be a HR. This'll be ESPN material. It's a blown call. Don't get me wrong, I like it selfishly to make our win safer. But it's the wrong call. It's not a ground rule double just because a fan touched it; depends where it was touched.

Well it looks like Ondrusek being in the minors to start the year was the correct decision.

It's getting to close for comfort now.

Going to Parra

Broxton should be in right now. Instead we're going with AA pitchers (Ondrusek) and AAA pitchers (Parra).

Broxton makes $7 million per year on average and Dusty won't use him more than 1 inning. Amazing.

Agreed, but score-wise it doesn't matter anyway since they ended up getting that run in.
