Here @GABP. If the lineup that's being shown is true... Then RZ might have a meltdown & Doug will be delirious. ;) Guess who's catching Arroyo?

Hanigan has a thumb injury.

Could explain his hitting so far this year.

Hope Mes does well, Reds aren't getting much from the bottom of the order so far.

Two quick outs for Arroyo.

Kc61
04-20-2013, 01:13 PM
Stanton is hitting .162. I wonder if there are threads saying this is a Rick Ankiel or Steve Blass thing.

Arroyo strikes out Stanton. With Mes catching.

It might've come on that first AB yesterday. Right off the knuckles, I saw him shaking his hand and wincing afterwards. Regardless, get well soon Hanny.

Choo....just a pleasure to watch him. Another leadoff hit. Sheesh!

_Sir_Charles_

I'm surprised (mildly) that Mesoraco is hitting where he is. I'd have him higher in the order.

SB for Choo.

No, it dates back to an April game with the Cards. You probably saw him expressing the pain of the injury.

I'm still down on Hanigan offensively, but if he's hurt, it explains a log.

Choo on second, one out. Votto up.

_Sir_Charles_
04-20-2013, 01:18 PM
Shallow fly out to Stanton from Cozart. 1 down. Choo holds at 2nd.

Should we start a thread to guess how long Choo's on base streak will go, or are people here to superstitious?

Bad at bat for Cozart there. Now Votto flies out to left. Shooting for the single to left, but popped it up a bit.

Now Phillips.

Yeah, I remember that one too. Foul ball off his hand. If he's been struggling with it that long I'm surprised it's taken this long. Personally, I bet it's an excuse to sit him and start Mesoraco without Hanny losing face. Just a guess.

Good looking swings from Votto. Normal looking at least. Fly out to left. 2 down.

Hanigan is batting .079. I don't think Dusty needs an excuse to sit him.

Dobbs singles. Lefty hits Arroyo well.

Funny that Reds now have three top lefty hitters, Choo, Votto, Bruce. Yet Reds are feasting on lefty pitching with league leading .877 OPS. Small sample.

Ruggiano Ks. One out.

42 pitches for LeBlanc through two innings. I hate games when you have to focus on the opposing pitcher's pitch count.

Reds with three hits and two walks in the first two innings and nothing on the scoreboard.

The starting pitching is on fire right now, Reds need to pick up wins.

But it's a shame to waste starting pitching like this, like last night.

Home run Votto. First point.

Pierre had a .350 plus OBP last season for the Phils. Reds lacked left handed hitting. It was only a year end move, Pierre would have been a free agent anyway.

I'm sorry they didn't acquire him at year end 2012.

OGB
04-20-2013, 02:06 PM
would u say they're the best starting staff we've ever had in cincinnati?

I'm 31 and it's hard to compare them to the best staffs I've seen for a few reasons. The 95 staff was awesome with Smiley and Schourek, but they only had Portugal, Burba, and Wells for just over two months.
The 99 staff was great, especially after adding Guzman, but that was contingent on Villone and Parris putting up numbers they'd never come close to approaching again.

The 90 staff was likely a little better, but Armstrong did kind of fall apart in the second half, and while they generally got good production from the fifth spot, they didn't have a regular SP in that role.

This one definitely has the potential to be the best I've seen.

If the bullpen pitches up to its potential, this could be the best overall Reds staff I've seen and I'm a lot older than 31.

Of course, the Nasty Boys were fabulous, but with these starters, Marshall, Chapman, Brox, Lecure, etc., it's really a good pitching staff. Healthy, that is.

I'm all for Mesoraco catching ALL the starters. He needs to learn all of them. This personal catcher thing isn't really a good idea. If one of the catchers gets hurt, I don't want the back up guy unfamiliar with a starter on his own staff.

Have to give Mes kudos this inning. In this lineup, when the eighth hitter leads off with a hit, things happen.

LeBlanc with 83 pitches in the fourth inning.

True, but that was mostly due to a mistake by the Marlins. A good defensive team would've taken advantage of that mistake.

For sure. Also, Bronson has to get the bottom of the Marlins order out. The seventh and eighth hitters set up that fifth inning rally.

Marlins lineup isn't good enough to give up hits to bottom of the order when they start off an inning.

New pitcher for the Marlins. Koehler from the Bronx. Big right hander throws two balls to Bruce to begin the fifth.

I think all of Cozart's at bats today have been bad ones. In the first inning, the Reds probably score if he moves the runner. Routine grounders with men on base in other at bats.

My point was he wasn't swinging at bad balls, he wasn't letting meatballs sail past, he worked the count decently. Sometimes those ground balls get through, sometimes they don't. If a couple of them get through, nobody would be saying anything. A good ab doesn't have to result in a hit everytime IMO.

Last year when Heisey filled in for Stubbs I found myself wanting Stubbs back.

He cannot hit major league pitching. It's as simple as that.

The Reds should just cut him loose.

Probably. It's not as if they're gonna get anything valuable back for him.

last year has nothing to do with this year

Why? It is pretty close to the same team...

Yes they will. He will no longer be making stupid mistakes that costs the Reds games.

Then stop crying until there's enough sample size to draw conclusions.

well, so much for this one, we haven't won a walkoff game yet this year, though we've lost 3 when tied in the 9th or later at home already this year.

Hmm...I thought we just won that suspended game restart in the bottom of the 9th on a bases loaded Jay Bruce single to right?
