Glad Cozart is back in already.

Heisey isn't as bad as his start, he will pop off soon.

Bruce as well.

I like what Mez is doing with the bat. Slowing things down and just getting base hits, not HR happy.

Leake vs. Wood

Besides being a twelve year old's most giggle worthy matchup, it's a matchup of teammates who battled for the same spot in the Reds rotation in spring 2010.

Btw, not nearly as giggle worthy as the Cardinal's bullpen in 1979. Lefty/righty set up men John Urrea and Kim Seaman.

I have a ba feeling the Reds offense doesn't make an appearance tonight. They could really use a big game from Jay. He has had some impressive ABs and an often improved approach at the plats, but Choo-Phillips-Frazier-Votto have carried the team offensively for the most part.

Against righties, hopefully XPaul will hit second mostly.

Against lefties it's either Cozart or Heisey. I'll take Cozart but not with great enthusiasm.

If Reds had a good LF platoon hitting right handed, that would help.

Maybe Derrick Robinson should hit second against LHP and just bunt all the time. Not really joking.

Completely agree. I'm a very tough grader on catchers and Mez's defense leaves a little to be desired for me too. Good catchers (like all other positions I guess) make everything look easy and he seems to labor a bit back there.

C'mon. The whole theory of Hanigan over Mes was that - somehow - if Mes "called" the game the pitchers would fall apart. All we heard is that Hanigan handles the pitchers better and needs to be in there.

Turns out, so far, that the starting pitchers are doing fine with Mes. Better than fine.

Yes, Mes has rough edges. I think he has a good arm but he's not executing throws that well as yet.

But the defensive catastrophe of Mes looks like a fiction right now.

I think you're misunderstanding me KC. I like Mes. He's looked solid in his game calling (hanny IS better at it...but that takes reps), his hitting too. But I'm not picking on the guy when I point out the fact that he's got some poor mechanics. He quite regularly doesn't move his body in front of pitches and instead just reaches his glove. That's a bad idea. If it's a pitch that gets away from a guy, that's one thing...but that's not what he's doing. And his throws to 2nd...I only see about a quarter of his throws as accurate. That's not good. He's got a great arm, he's got quick feet. Those are great traits...but right now he's got some sloppy mechanics that he needs to clean up. But all that said, he IS our catcher of the future and most likely the present. And he's NOT a catastrophe...at all. Just sloppy and lackadaisical too often.
