I assume the return is because Cingrani is pitching.

Corky will go 0-4, but his mustache will get a single, a HR, and get hit by a pitch.

And because Mes has caught a bunch of innings lately.

Looking at Villanueva's splits, for a RHP this year he has been killing lefties. They are only 3 for 32 this season, all singles. For his career he is about even on the splits so still better than most RHP on lefties.

I was in favor of the Reds signing Villanueva this offseason to be the #5 and trading Leake...but I hope the Reds bash his brains in.

Sveum, if he is sitting DeJesus because a rookie lefty is pitching, is clueless. Yes, he has negative splits for a lefty, but come on. He is as dangerous as anyone in their lineup and they really need a win.

(Pretty much guarantees a big game from Sappelt) :p

Any pitcher that would dare even ponder striking such a magnificent lip warmer would instantly be struck by lightning before that dark pitch would even leave his hand.

If he's going to get a start, it might as well be with the guy he's most familiar with of the catchers.

So, a manager is clueless for platooning a lefty who brings a low .500 OPS to the table vs. LH pitching?

Negative splits is one thing, but his are downright horrible.

Negative splits is one thing, but his are downright horrible.Career OPS vs. lefties is .669, which is what I would use to see if he is horrible against lefties. I'm not sure what timeframe you were looking at. You didn't think I'd bother to go look that up before making that statement?

The last 2 years combined he's below .500. I know, only 200 at-bats, but it's not like he has a track record of hitting them well... at all. The fact he has been hitting like a pitcher against lefties over his last 2 years certainly seems that choosing to bench him in favour of a guy who generally handles lefties reasonably well is certainly far from "clueless". Dejesus is at best .660 against lefties, at worst, he's disgusting. He's just not a dangerous bat against lefties any way you slice it.

Corky can call a good game and handle the defensive aspects of the catching position, but offensively it is like having two pitchers in the lineup. He looked really bad in his first two at bats. He will probably have one more AB, let's hope he redeems himself.

I'm down here in Texas and I eat Jalepenos like M&M's. Habaneros are extremely hot, but more importantly they have a great taste. I've tried some of those "volcano" peppers....and while they're hotter than Habanero's...they don't have a good taste IMO.

You might be right. But they've said he's made some changes and we're seeing the difference. I agree that the BABIP will go up...but regardless of the luck, he's spotting his pitches well, changing speeds really well...basically keeping EVERY hitter totally off balance.
