Just that his name isn't Hannigan. I have yet to see Corky's beard hold a bat, and we could use its offense.

From CTrent:

WASHINGTON — It wasn’t a drastic shakeup, but Dusty Baker did make one very noticeable change to his lineup for Sunday’s final game of a four-game set against the Nationals, flip-flopping third baseman Todd Frazier and right fielder Jay Bruce in the lineup, with Frazier taking over the fifth spot.

The move, in part, was prompted by Nationals starter, lefty Ross Detwiler, but that’s not the only reason, Baker said.

“Frazier’s good against lefties and Bruce has struggled against this guy,” Baker said. “It’s been a struggle this first month with Bruce, period. We need some RBIs from Frazier and he’s been pretty good with men on base.”

Bruce is just 1 for 11 in his career against Detwiler, but this season (albeit still very early, just 112 plate appearances), he’s been much better against left-handers than right-handers. He’s hitting .314/.333/.514 against lefties and .224/.316/.269 against right-handers. Overall, Bruce has just one hit in this series against the Nationals and is hitting just .161/.275/.323 over his last eight games.

Frazier has better career numbers against lefties (.290/.324/.523) than right-handers (.251/.324/.475), but is hitting nearly 100 points better against right-handers (.281/.379/.544) than lefties (.185/.233/.444). Frazier has only faced Detwiler three times, with a double and RBI.

As for how long this lineup change will last, Baker said he didn’t know.

“Things change during the course of a season, because we are in the production business,” Baker said. “Sometimes you’ve just got to do things. You wait and wait and wait and sometimes you’ve got to make a change. I don’t know how long this is for.”

Oh, and one last thing....Happy Birthday Barry Larkin! :D

I'm being facetious. We're guessing Corky is catching today because Cingrani is comfortable with Corky. If Hanigan comes back before Cueto, that means Cingrani is still up and would have to throw to Hanigan or Mes eventually so I don't understand why not just let it happen now, especially when Mes kills left-handed pitching and the offense is struggling.

That's why it's Jocketty's job to "Dusty-proof" the roster.

I'll take that "stupid" all day long. Crazy what happens when you put pressure on the defense. Especially one that has been shaky.

If not for a bad throw, he'd have made the 3rd out at 3B. I get that we're told to put pressue on the defense from the time we're little kids, and if it was a little leaguer or a high schooler in RF, I'd be pretty cool with making them make the throw, but a major league RF should be able to make that play most of the time. A good throw and it's not even close. He'd have been out by 10 feet. It worked out, but it wasn't smart. Not a fan of making a play where all the opposition has to do is make a normal play to record the out. It's like saying a weak ground ball to 2B is a good PA because they made the opposition make the play.

I'd have scored that throw an error on the RF it was so poor.

I hate making outs on the bases more than any other single thing a team can do on a baseball diamond. It's worse than walking the pitcher IMO.

C. Miller has Bo Diaz type speed.

Reds Catcher Ernie Lombardi.

Lombardi's famous lack of speed allowed infielders to play him as deep as their arms would allow. He once joked that for three years he thought Pee Wee Reese was an outfielder before he realized Reese was the Dodgers' shortstop.

DL for Parra I think. Yep, found it.

WASHINGTON — The Reds have activated left-hander Sean Marshall from the disabled list, sending left-hander Manny Parra to the 15-day disabled list with a strained left pectoral muscle. Parra’s DL stint is retroactive to Wednesday.

Marshall was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 10 with tendinitis in his left shoulder. He made two rehab appearances this week and was already in Washington with the team.

Marshall’s line appearance this season was on April 7 against the Nationals, before he was put on the DL.

Parra last pitched on Tuesday against the Cubs, earning the loss. He’s 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in six appearance this year.

Lutz making the claim that he's the first German in the big leagues. True?

maybe the first German citizen...certainly not the first German...and Id be surprised if no other German born but naturalized players weren't somewhere in the games early history...tons of German ancestry in the early years thru WWII. Heinie Groh...HeiniePeitz...lots and lots of others....would be interesting to research.

Thought so too. Paul isn't 2004 Griffey out there, but he's iffy in the OF IMO.
Good call. :D

OMG. Soft liner to left. Paul just absolutely botched it. Hits him in the stomach. But for some unknown reason, they send Rendon to the dish. Out by a mile to end the inning.

Apparently Dusty was right. They needed Heisey out there for his defense...color me less than impressed by Paul.
