No Latinos in our Cinco de Mayo Lineup.

Just put "el" in front of each of their names and add an "o" to the end of it. Simple and automatic English to Spanish translation. Glad I could help. :O)

Hitting Cozart second makes no sense.

It really doesn't make sense. The only justification is avoiding three lefties in a row.

But with Paul hitting second, you'd pinch hit for him in the lefty reliever/three consecutive lefty situation.

Of course, the Reds really don't have a good righty pinch hitter for Paul, but Robinson gets on base with flairs and speed.

Choo/Votto is such a compelling duo, Cozart just isn't the right guy to hit between them.

_Sir_Charles_

Disagree. It was tailing away from him, he got a good jump too. The only way somebody gets to that one easily is if they were positioned differently before the swing.

Kc61
05-05-2013, 02:49 PM
Cubs announcers compliment Frazier on fouling off a lot of pitches and making pitcher work, both yesterday and today.

Full count now, Frazier now singles.

Todd is interesting, he has good power numbers this year, has fielded well, is playing quite well, but he's hitting under .230 BA. Low BABIP, in his case I'd expect his BA to improve soon.

Looking at Mes' numbers on Fangraphs, I must say he has some very promsing numbers. He has about a 15% K rate and walk rate, both identical. He has a 25% line drive rate with the rest evenly divided between GB and FB. These are very good numbers. His BABIP is .279, a bit low but not way out of line. His OBP is good.

But his ISO power is very low and he should be hitting for more power. Low SLG, not reflective of the power he showed in the minor leagues.

Could be that he's tentative at the plate, totally concerned with hitting to right and making contact. The numbers are promising but maybe the coaches need to get him to relax and swing away a bit more.

Could be, definitely.

But a few times, including in the second inning, he just seemed defensive up there, like he just wanted to swing at any pitch he could touch and poke it to the outfield some place.

I'd rather see Mes strike out, say 18-20% of the time and hit for a bit more power.

2 things. Homer has said previously how frustrated he is playing in GABP. It's also well known how much he loves the south. I think the ace in the hole for us is the fact that he's really growing up under the tutelage of Price. Maybe that'll help the Reds.

As for Choo...Boras. I think it's pretty clear that he wants Choo to test the market. If it's a bidding war, the Reds lose.

Again, I hope like crazy that I'm wrong. But if it comes to a choice between the 2, I always lean towards the pitcher.

Really pretty front door two-seamer from Latos there. DeJesus didn't have a chance.

Btw, prior to yesterday, Marmol was working on a 10 inning scoreless stretch. He's not horrific...just inconsistent as hell.

I think W-L is an interesting stat. It's perhaps least interesting in evaluating a starting pitcher.

For example, no Red pitcher has more than 2 wins currently this season. Yet two NL pitchers have 5. Tells us something about the nature of the team.

Also, W-L tells us something about relievers. IMO maybe more than starters.

In a wind blown stadium with balls dropping all over, why use Lutz in the outfield?

I guess the alternative is Derrick Robinson. I guess Dusty wants Derrick available to pinch hit. That must be the thinking.

I didn't mean that W-L directly tells us the value of individual relievers, you're correct.

Just the dynamic on the Reds seems to be (without double checking) a lot of late game decisions, a lot of reliever decisions, some overall indication about the team.
