We have played 40 games, and have the best record at 40 games we have had in a long while..so:

1. Who has surprised you the most after 40 games

2. Who has disappointed you the most after 40 games

3. What 1 change would you make heading forward?

1. Choo. I thought he'd be great and a huge boost for the team but I wasn't thinking he'd be at the very top of the league in OBP
2.Frazier, his bat is slumping something fierce.
3.I guess I'd bring in the bullpen more? Seems weird to have the bullpen we do and seem so hesitant to use them. We've had some pretty long stretches without seeing Chapman and Broxton. I think Broxton especially has been cold and his performance has suffered as a result.

1.Choo and Votto's dip in power(I don't expect it to last)
2.Bruce and Cingarni's inability to throw anything besides a fastball
3.Cozart do the 8 hole where he belongs

1. Choo - never expected him to be THAT kind of an impact player

2. The Toddfather - hope he gets it going rather sooner than later

3. Here i agree with Goose1701 - put Cozart back in the 8 hole. Batting 2nd ainīt his thing

As for Choo, it's hardly surprising because he's an incredibly underrated player.
He is close to a great player rather than just a good player.

1. Who has surprised you the most after 40 games

Nobody. I've wanted to acquire Choo since 2009. I knew they were getting an underrated stud. I'm probably surprised by Latos good start. He usually struggles in April.
BP being so clutch in the 4-hole has been, not so much a huge surprise, but a little surprise.

2. Who has disappointed you the most after 40 games
Disappointed in Cozart and Frazier's hitting. Disappointed in Votto and Bruce's lack of power.
Broxton hasn't seemed the same.
Chapman seems more hittable.

3. What 1 change would you make heading forward?
I wish we could find a higher OBP guy to bat second.

I was just going to ask if there was a concern that Votto only has four homers? That dude is making a boatload of money... I'd want a bit more pop.

He will finish with the 25-30 he will avg in his career...

Not concerned yet. He is only a good homer month from being right on his norm. If he only adds a couple homers the rest of May, and again in June, then I start wondering a bit.
If the rest of his game was also off then maybe I'd be more worried.

Phillips RBI production.

Hardly any power from our corners and Bruce's lack of power to this point

Keep Cingrani in the starting rotation

1. The Chief (Ed Mujica). 12 for 12 in save opportunities.

2. David Freese. No home runs and 4 RBI (before tonight's grand slam).

3. Get Chris Carpenter back healthy.

1. Shin Soo Choo. Both at the plate, and in the field. Knew he'd have an impact offensively, but not this much, and am sure it will taper a bit as the law of averages catches up to him. Defensively, I did not expect him to struggle this much - it's an adventure every time unless it's hit right at him.

2. Dusty Baker. I've never thought he was a very good X's and O's manager, particularly in handling pitchers. (yes, I know his record, and I didnt say he was HORRIBLE. I just do not think he's a very good lineup/situational manager. What I DO know is that players play very hard for him, and always have). Cozart's bat has been horrendous this year, and why Dusty keeps putting him in the 2 hole I will never understand.

3. See above, get Cozart out of the 2 hole - he's hurting the team badly. Yes, I know he started the season in the 7 and the injury to Ludwick changed the dynamic of our lineup, but we've seen enough of it to know that he doesn't belong in that slot.

1. Who has surprised you the most after 40 games - no one really but I guess Cingrani since I didn't have any expectations for him before the season.

2. Who has disappointed you the most after 40 games - Todd Frazier. The Reds really need him to starting hitting.

3. What 1 change would you make heading forward? Get Cozart out of the #2 hole. Honestly, anyone other than Cozart. Dusty batted Izturis in #2 the other day and he was batting LH so I know he will bat 3 lefties in a row.

Choo being a HOFer surprises me.

Frazier being MIA disappoints me. Bruce can't because I expect so little from him.

Cozv behind the pitcher would help.

Choo being this good - or Cingrani

Frazier's lackluster hitting

Cozart out of the 2 hole and anyone else into it. I'd prefer to keep Choo, Votto and BP in the current order, but everyone else has seemed to do more than Cozart can offensively.

Awesome stat of the day:

The Reds have a +57 run differential, which as of right now is currently the best in major league baseball.

Just curious...do you guys EVER lose?

1. Mike Leake. I viewed this guy as a shoplifting turd coming into this season, & openly stated that the $3M that he got in arbitration "wasn't the first time he'd stolen from Cincinnati". So far this year: zero arrests, he actually got a "man haircut", and his statline has been quite impressive. Good job Mikey :D

2. So far we have 4 pretty glaring holes in our lineup that I didn't expect to be there.
I didn't foresee the Lud injury, and I expected all 3 of Frazier/Hanigan/Cozart to be hitting between .250 + .285.
Even so, I'm actually really frickin' stoked that we're still only a 1/2 game out of 1st place :beerme:

3. Feeling that Cingani is ready to take over the #4/#5 spot in the rotation, I would trade Arroyo + Broxton to an American League contender, perhaps Boston: http://blog.masslive.com/redsoxmonster/2013/05/boston_red_sox_2013_options_if.html (they NEED pitching) and get some solid outfield/SS/3B ML ready prospects.
