Awesome stat of the day..."Shin-Soo Choo has 17 games this season in which he has reached safely at least three times."

Choo line vs. LHP this year:

.159 .327 .205 .532

Reds are facing Cliff Lee tonight, a lefty. And yeah Choo's stats against right handers are really good.

I liked this line by Cingrani:

"It should be good," Cingrani said. "I've got to use a lot of curveballs and indoor sliders. It should be fun. I'm excited to face Cliff Lee. He's why I run off and on the field, because Cliff Lee did that when I was growing up. I also like how he uses his fastball."

Well the rest of it lies with a guy who's name rhymes with Fusty but I don't feel like getting into another one of those trainwreck threads.

Based on the way Dusty appears to view the #2 hitters spot, a place for a guy with some pop to see a lot of fastballs to help him out, it would seem Frazier could use some time in that spot.

Won't happen but the argument can be made.

The only other thing you can do is bundle up all your auto outs in the 6-9 holes and hope for the best. It might be worth a shot.

I think Dusty doesn't want his "power" types like Frazier hitting second. And he doesn't want a lefty (XPaul) hitting second between Choo and Votto. So Cozart gets it by default.

He'll try other righty hitters. He tried Heisey who didn't hit. Ask Dusty, he'll say the ideal guy is not on the roster.

I would simply put Xavier Paul second against RHP and Derrick Robinson against LHP. I'd go with CF, LF instead of CF, SS. With this roster.

If Billy Hamilton were to catch fire and the Reds bring him up to play CF moving Choo to left, would Dusty leadoff Billy, leave Cozart second in the order and drop Choo to eighth?

I think the CF SS thing is overdone, it's funny, but it's overdone.

I once looked back at this and there have been long stretches when the SS didn't hit second for the Reds under Dusty.

And this year, Phillips would hit second if Ludwick were healthy.

Dusty is much more concerned with breaking up the lefties than he is with CF SS.

But this year, well, it is CF SS.

When he has that bad outing, it's usually due to the walks. So yeah they come in bunches. But for a guy who does what he does...he still "get's by" as you say. Not every reliever has to be Sam LeCure or Aroldis Chapman. You need reliable guys to eat innings too who can give you quality innings the majority of the time. Logan fits that bill.

Thanks for the vote.. I wish Jacoby would do his job better.. Votto/Philipps and Choo dont need a hitting coach. Cozart Bruce and Mez are types that need it..

Cozart drops his back shoulder so much and when he doesnt drop it, he hammers the ball -home runs, Doubles etc.. Bruce needs to step and drive the ball thats pitched especially when they pitch him away. when he steps towards 1st he always pulls the ball or pulls off the ball.. he could be as dominate as Choo and Votto if he changed that part of his game.. just wish another coach was the Reds hitting coach.. heck i win the lottery im calling The Reds about it..lol

Gotta wonder what % of semi-sentient Reds fans think Baker has Cozart in the right place.

10%? 5%?

how about .001%

So glad that Cozart was at the plate for that last at bat and not Votto.

Hard to beat quality pitching with three guys in the lineup hitting as poorly as Cozart, Frazier and Hanigan.

Dusty brought Hanny in the game for his bat....LOL

Just one more reason for an out machine like Cozart to be pushed back in the order.

I wish the beat writers would ask Dusty WHY since he has been a Reds manager he always has to have a out machine either 1st or 2nd in the lineup.. Taveras/Patterson/Gonzo/Cozart/Stubbs/Renteria.. those lack of hitters would never be at the top of any order if i was manager.. your top on base guys would be there and if i didnt have one, i ask for that type of player to be traded for in some way..

The prevailing theory is that he is there to "move Choo over for Votto," as a "sacrificial lamb," but he can't even do that enough (pop ups won't cut it).

So yeah, at what point do you get someone in that spot who can hit or do the job more often? It gets old.

Tonight's loss is what it is, they were due, Broxton was pretty rusty or just isn't getting it done yet.

I know Cozart is the scapegoat but the real anti-heroes tonight were the 8th inning pitching and defense.

Good question. We do know that Baker digs his heels in deep when he's confronted on something that he knows is wrong.

Maybe if Twin Peaks BOB asked him to drop Cozart, he'd think about it. Jocketty doesn't have the nerve and wouldn't dare ask, IMO. Maybe if his son asked him....

Disagree on the Hanigan addition to that list. Since the DL, he's been quite good. Prior to the DL, many think he was playing hurt.

5 for 13 since his return FWIW.
