The good news for the Cubs, who wrapped up a three-game series in Pittsburgh on Thursday, is that their starter on Friday, right-hander Scott Feldman, is in the midst of his own hot streak. Since taking the loss in each of his first three starts, Feldman is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in his past five. He also has a pair of shutout outings in that span, including 6 2/3 scoreless innings in an 8-2 win over the Mets on Saturday.

"His last five starts, he's been as good as anybody in baseball," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said.

Is Mes playing for the third game in a row?

Cubs have about 19 lefty hitters in the lineup to face Arroyo, LOL. Hope it doesn't work.

True, but it would be hard to believe that they'd go into a game without a backup catcher.

Maybe Donald Lutz is gonna don the tools of ignorance and go all Happy Gilmore on us. Just let the ball bounce off the chest protector before picking it up and tossing it back to the pitcher. :)

The Cubs surprisingly have allowed only 7 more runs than they've scored, so they might be just a little better than their record indicates. On the bright side, they're still the Cubs.

Interesting to look where the Cubs hitters hit by position, compared to the Reds:

Cubs:
1. CF
2. SS
3. 1B
4. LF
5. RF
6. 3b
7. C
8. 2B
9. P

Reds:
1. CF
2. SS
3. 1B
4. 2B
5. RF
6. 3b
7. LF
8. C
9. P

Six of the positions bat in the same place....

Just joining the game thread. Don't know if this has been covered.

I can't believe this season how many pitchers, Reds and others, don't know when to throw strikes and don't know when to stay outside the zone.

Feldman just cannot throw a strike to Hanigan once he falls behind 3-0. Can't believe he threw strikes there, including the very hittable home run pitch.

Make Hanigan reach for one. If you walk him, you walk him, the pitcher is on deck.

I've seen this time and again this year. A walk isn't a good outcome but sometimes it's not such a big deal. Just hard to believe he threw that pitch, especially at GABP. Maybe he just missed his spot, I don't know.

I didn't like the Broxton signing when it was made, even if it was clear he was supposed to be the closer...but the money they paid him proves that not only was he supposed to do exactly that, but they expected him to be good.

Broxton basically hit the lotto because the Reds had an idea of trying Chapman out as a starter. Now here we are with Chapman still in the bullpen. That was one expensive idea. My goodness.

Not been impressed with the home plate umpire tonight.

His zone notwithstanding, I hate his calls in general. Seems to wait a few beats to call strikes and then half-heartedly does so.
