Hitters hit better on the fist pitch than on any other.

You fall behind 0-1, and you've become a substantially worse hitter.

Phillips always finds a way to get the run home with a runner on third and less than 2 outs.

And the Reds announcers mention Dunn's lack of sacrifice flies. The day simply wouldn't have been complete without it.

Leake was pitching really well with no signs of letting up. He made a good pitch and tip your cap to the hitter. There's absolutely no reason he should have been taken out prior to that batter.

What in the world are you talking about? Leake was at 91 pitches, hadn't allowed a walk all day, had 7 k's, and only allowed 4 hits. His one run was unearned due to the error by Brandon.

2 outs with a man on first, and you want to pinch hit for Leake who's rolling AND who's nearly as good a hitter as any pinch hitter on our bench. Really don't get the thinking there. Different strokes though.

Leake was rolling, struck out the first hitter of the inning, and Broxton has hardly been shut down this year.

Leake threw a good pitch and dude hit it out. It happens. He didn't leave Leake in because he wanted to be loved by the players. It's not like he was trying to get Leake a CG. He thought Leake was a better option the Broxton.

Now taking Leake out as soon as he gave up a HR, that is protecting his player from getting an L.

Pitching to Votto in that situation (when BP could have grounded into a DP) might be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in baseball. And I think Francona is a good manager, but he sure botched the hell out of that one.

No worries. I also didn't mean I was smarter than Dusty overall. I just knew in this occasion he was wrong. I knew Francona would pinch hit Giambi Juice for Ubaldo. I would have preferred Parra to face Giambi and then if Terry switched him out, I would have brought in Brox. They do have two pitching mounds in the bully for a reason.

Plus, nobody reviewed the scouting report on Giambi before they threw to him. Price or Mez should have spoken to Leake prior to throwing to him. He's a lowball masher and Leake was living low in the zone all day.

Phillips certainly has come through more often than not this year, but if I have to choose between pitching to Phillips in a possible DP situation or pitching to Votto with a guy on third and one out, it's not even anything to think about. Phillips knocks runs in, but he also hits into a lot of DPs. Francona dropped the ball there.

Baker wasn't wrong IMO. The result doesn't always justify the decision.
