When Rodriguez steps on the mound on Friday at PNC Park, he'll look for his fifth win in as many starts, a streak that dates back to May 10. In the previous four victories, Rodriguez has a 3.00 ERA while striking out 16 in 24 innings. For the season, the 34-year-old left-hander owns a 3.58 ERA, with a 6-2 record. Rodriguez has surrendered more than three runs on just one occasion this season, when he gave up seven on six hits and four walks in just 3 2/3 innings in Milwaukee at the end of April. That consistency has helped the Pirates to an 8-2 record in Rodriguez's starts this season.

*The Reds and Pirates will be wearing throwback uniforms tonight. Cincinnati’s uniforms will be replicas of the 1937 Cincinnati Tigers Negro League kits.

*Tonight also marks the 1,000th game to be played at PNC Park. The Reds were the winners of Game No. 1 here by an 8-2 score as Sean Casey’s first-inning home run off Todd Ritchie was the stadium’s first hit. Casey will be working as an analyst for Fox Sports Ohio this series.

Looks like the cells are heading NE which should buy them enough time to get this in. fingers crossed. The cell which passed Cincinnati not that long back looks like the one heading for Pitt.

Well, that batting average can't improve if they never swing at the first pitch again, right?

Only teasing. It depends on the pitcher. If the guy has trouble throwing strikes, you go deeper into the count. Some pitchers you jump right on.

It also depends on the situation. Sometimes you expect the pitcher to throw a get ahead fastball, you swing.

There's no right or wrong on this.
