Tonights Reds lineup. Lutz in LF today. I think Bailey should bat 8th. (I'm only half kidding about that.)

Reds

1. Shin-Soo Choo (L) CF
2. Zack Cozart (R) SS
3. Joey Votto (L) 1B
4. Jay Bruce (L) RF
5. Todd Frazier (R) 3B
6. Donald Lutz (L) LF
7. Ryan Hanigan (R) C
8. Cesar Izturis (S) 2B
9. Homer Bailey (R) P

Just looked up Izturis on baseball-reference and he has walked 223 times in 4,603 plate appearances over a career spanning 13 years. My God.

In all seriousness - let's say Phillips is out for the entire month of June. What are your predictions on how many runs the Reds will score.

My guess: 60

Sorry, I was not very clear. I did not mean because of this injury. I meant if Phillips were to be out for all of June for any reason. I do not think Phillips is going to be out for a month. Was just a hypothetical.

Is Hannahan unable to play 2B? I thought he was a utility guy, not just a backup 3B.

I think I read he's only played 2B once.

I read that too. They got Hannahan to backup 3rd,1st and maybe a litle outfield. Izturis is to backup 2nd and SS.

Here's Hannhan by position. One game at 2nd base, two innings in 2009. He's played SS a little more,9 games and 24 innings.

You're probably thinking about walking the go-ahead or winning run. Bases loaded and 1 out if the next batter hits a ground ball, it's a double play or at the very least you can get the lead runner at home.

I think later in the game they walk to load the bases. Early in the game you try to stay away from the big inning. So you don't put on additional baserunners. Kinda like early you leave the infield back and late you bring them in. Or I could be entirely wrong.

It depends on the situation. If Miggy Cabrera or some mere mortal is up, you play the infield back and take your chances. But with the 8th place hitter up and the pitcher on deck, why wouldn't you walk him and try to get a DP with the pitcher up? I can see the strategy of pitching to the 8th place hitter since he's the 8th place hitter for a reason but why take your chances?
