We pickup centerfilder Ervin in the 1st, then have a 1(b) compensation pick and we snag center-fielder/relief warrior Lorenzen .

Now, w/ projections played, Billy Hamilton is our next CF and (has been projected) becomes the next Vince Coleman.

W/ projections played, Ervin hangs out in the minors long enough to exceed Lud's contract, and (has been projected) becomes in LF the next Ron Gant.

Lorenzen thus just becomes like a masterpiece reliever/pinch-hitter/defensive specialist (the perfect 5th outfielder)...................................

IMO, this draft tells me that both Lud & Choo are OUT!!! Perhaps XP sticks around as a #4 guy??

Thoughts/Opinions??

I don't think this draft has anything to do with lud, choo, and definately not Paul.ludwick was probaly gone after next year anyways. Choo will b resigned if the money is right and Paul is irrelevant as to who we draft.
I think it will b a few years till Ervin makes the bigs anyways, and some r suggesting he will play a corner spot and not center, but either way I don't think he will b a factor In whether or not we resign choo.
Lorenzen will have a designated spot, either it b pitcher or they think he can hit well enough to stick in the outfield. If he is a reliever he may make it to the reds faster, but I think if he stays as an outfielder he will b a while before he sees the majors....these r just my opinions.

I don't think it says much as all. The Baseball draft is a different beast than that of the NFL. The NFL is a little bit best player at the position you need. In Baseball, it is strictly best player available.

Remember, baseball has a farm system whereas in football you either make the team or you don't.

Yet, as a kid who gre up in "the late '80s/early '90s", I would be absolutely pumped to see a Rockin' Ronnie/Vinnie C/"Don't call me boo" Bruce manning our outfield in '15..............................

It means nothing as far as the current team. This crop of rookies will not see the majors, in all probability, for three to four years.

They simply were taken for best athletes available. And, if Lorenzen throws 95-98... he might as well not even pack an outfield glove or a bat when he goes to Rookie ball.
