He is definitely back to pumpkin status. I don't mind him drawing random starts, but having him start regularly against lefties has me longing for the return of Chris Heisey.

Do we not have any other RH OF in the minors right now? LF is not exactly a difficult position to play.

Tom Servo
06-19-2013, 04:51 PM
Denis Phipps must have rubbed somebody on the Reds the wrong way last year or something, because he's a RH OF and playing fairly well in AAA but can't seem to get a callup in favor of all these lefties. Neftali Soto is also RH, but he hasn't play so much as an inning of LF in his minor league career.

It's because he only has one 'n' in "Denis." It's unacceptable.

I bet we see Soto called up later in the year.

RedFanAlways1966
06-19-2013, 07:49 PM
I noticed Cozart, as he was approaching 3rd base, reach up with his right hand to make sure his helmet did not fall off.

Does this slow a running man down? Surely it is not making him faster. Close play at the plate and out. So... why the heck is he concerned with the helmet while running? Sure it protects his head, but the odds of getting hit are so slim you'd get great odds betting that it happens in any MLB game.

Might have been out regardless, but I guess (as you can read lol) it bothers me.

Some of the Reds' stars need to start hitting more.

Recently, only Jay Bruce has been effective offensively. Frazier to some extent also.

Votto, Choo, and Phillips are slumping a bit, but in a series like this they are needed.

Thanks a lot Tom...now some butthead is gonna bump the thread and off we go again....

In all seriousness, I've said that until Cole was promoted, I wouldn't view them as serious contenders. Well guess what just happened. D'oh.

I sure don't see them being able to topple both the Reds and Cards to win the division. I'd give them a 5 percent chance of doing so.

Now as for the wildcard...the rest of the NL aside from the Central has really underperformed to this point in my opinion. That gives the Bucs (and the second place team of the Reds/Cards) a big headstart for the Wildcard. Without diving into things I still don't believe in Pitt over a 162 game season...but I'd give them a 30 percent chance to make the playoffs right now.

They certainly don't frighten me though.

I understood you, it's just that we have been doing this all season when we play the better teams. There has been little or no improvement in our hitting against the better teams or pitchers, and we're nearly half way through the season. Assuming we get to the playoffs, is this going to continue to happen?

The Pirates win on pitching. Their hitting is putrid and their fielding is sorry, but they can pitch and in this series, they have been stellar. And with everyone on the team struggling at the plate, Cozart's brain cramps in the field, it was the perfect storm. It points out the left field problem and the loss of a true cleanup hitter. That said, the Reds could fall back a long way before this is over, but it is a long season.
